iOS app stopped syncing with desktop and web on October 19, 2026

    Hello,

I’m experiencing a synchronization issue with Simplenote on my iPhone that began on the morning of October 19, 2026.

    Problem description

The iPhone app suddenly stopped syncing with the desktop and web versions. Changes made in the iPhone app were not appearing on the desktop or website, and changes made on the desktop or website were not appearing on the iPhone. The desktop application and website continued to sync correctly with each other.

Shortly before the issue began, I had to completely power off my iPhone for several hours to take a test. When I turned the phone back on, I discovered that Simplenote was no longer syncing.

    Troubleshooting already attempted

    • Confirmed that I am signed into the correct Simplenote account.
    • Logged out and back into the iPhone app.
    • Restarted the iPhone.
    • Deleted and reinstalled the Simplenote app.
    • Confirmed that Wi-Fi, cellular data, and internet access work normally for other apps.
    • Confirmed that Simplenote is permitted to use cellular data.
    • Confirmed that I do not use a VPN, firewall, or ad-blocking software on my iPhone.
    • Opened simperium.com, api.simperium.com, and auth.simperium.com in Safari without connection errors or timeouts.
    • Checked the Simperium website for an apparent service issue.

There are no sync indicators, loading indicators, or error messages in the iPhone app.

    Current status

After reinstalling the iPhone app, my notes were no longer present in the app. Creating a new test note on the iPhone does not cause it to appear on the website or desktop application.

The desktop and web versions continue to sync with each other normally. The iPhone app remains isolated from them.

I have exhausted the usual troubleshooting steps and would appreciate assistance identifying why the iOS app cannot synchronize with the service. Could this be related to the app’s connection to Simperium, an authentication or synchronization issue, or a problem triggered when the phone was powered back on?

Thank you for any assistance or additional troubleshooting steps you can recommend.

Identical issue here on the same day (261019), and on two separate accounts.

Today my partner and I Collaborated on a note – something we’ve done and do many times before – so we suspected that that might be the issue, but reading your post, perhaps not(?) –

For both of us, our iPhone app just stopped synching. (Some time this afternoon, or early evening (GMT) we think.)

We double-checked and our PC apps were still synching changes to/from the web UI.

I tried logging out and in again, on my iPhone app, but it just sat there, with the spinning wheel.

I removed the iPhone app, reinstalled it from AppStore – same spinning wheel, no data ever shown.

    (Eek!)

Same! Not syncing form Mac app either or iphone. I signed out of iphone and now wished I hadnt as now I have zero notes on my phone with me!!

Luckily it is all still on the webapp but concerning nonetheless!

Another one confirming the iPhone app is not syncing. This after logging out/in and removing the app and re-installing.

I noticed the same sync problem this evening. Notes I had entered through the day on 10/19 were not synced to the desktop for editing this evening. previous notes from 11/16 synced. I saved new notes in Note, then uninstalled and reinstalled app – notes gone – still in web app and desktop app. So I appear to be having the same issue.

Notes added to desktop app also not syncing to Web App.

    Same here!
    In my case,

    Web app:
Works normally. All my notes are accessible and up to date.

    Android phone:
Works normally. Notes sync correctly with the web app in both directions.

    iPhone:
Unable to sync notes in either direction, even after switching from Wi-Fi to cellular data.

    iPad:
Unable to sync notes in either direction, even after switching from Wi-Fi to cellular data. After logging out and logging back in, the app displays a blank note list with a loading spinner at the top that continues indefinitely.

The fact that the web app and Android app work normally, while both iOS apps fail to sync, suggests that the issue may be specific to the iOS apps or their interaction with the sync service.

Same here. MacOS and iOS not syncing any more.

Normally it works so smooth, it’s really great!

    Same issue here.

Desktop on the web browser is fine, but nothing syncing to my iOS phone. Rather concerning as I have so many notes that I need for reference while out and about.

First time in years this has happened. I hope they get it resolved soon, as I love this simple, uncomplicated app!

I have the same problem on iOS for iPhone; I would appreciate it if technical support could let me know once the issue is resolved. Thank you for fixing it.

Same here. Changes in iPadOS Simplenote are not reaching the server. The web app only has data from yesterday.

Tried restarting the Simplenote app (force-quit), clear browser cache and restart, Airplane Mode on/off, ad blocker off/on; all with no effect. The route to simperium.com is unchanged; the browser can reach it, after all. Unfortunately, the Simplenote iOS app does not display the last sync date, and there is no way to force sync, so we’re left guessing on iOS.

Further examination shows my last sync from the Simplenote on iPadOS was yesterday, Oct. 19, about 0540 EDT (0940 GMT). I’ve saved all my recent changes to FE File Explorer Pro as text files so I can recover them.

I have exactly the same problem. And I did a few tests too with no result. Thanks and kindly please fix it :)

    Hello,
I’m experiencing the same issue here on two iPhones in France.
It’s impossible to sync with the SimpleNote servers; however, syncing works fine with the Windows version of SimpleNote, though not with the version on my MacBook Pro…
Could this be an issue affecting all Apple devices?

Same issue and have also gone through all the same troubleshooting steps.

I read on another thread that it seems the developers are no longer behind it and the app has been orphaned.

I’ve since exported my note and am looking at Notion as an alternative. It does not have as simple as a layout that Simplenote had, which I greatly appreciated. But it is the simplest version I found so far that has web app, MacOS app, and iOS app all available.
