Hi. Please give a few more details. What is your OS? Are you using the Simplenote app on that system, or the web app in a browser (which browser)?
Is the background gray, or is the text gray on a white background?

Sorry for the lack of details
OS Win 11, Simplenote app on PC, Background is white, the text is light gray. Printing on a Epson WF-2930 over wifi.
I don’t see a simple way I can print a single note from a browser or from the phone app, if there is I’ll be glad to try it but I know notepad and chrome printed fine in my testing.

Thanks @dan26d7049e1333 for the extra details.
Since Notepad and Chrome both print in black on the same printer, the gray is indeed likely coming from the Simplenote app itself.
What I suspect is happening: for on-screen reading, the editor displays your note text in a very dark gray rather than pure black. On a lit screen that reads as black, but when it’s sent to a printer that same dark gray comes through.
A potential fix may be to to print from Simplenote’s Markdown preview instead of the standard editor. The preview uses a different display mode that renders text in true black, so it could sidestep the problem. Could you try the following:
- Open your note, then open the note’s Info menu (the ⓘ button near the top-right).
- Turn on Markdown.
- Click the Preview toggle (the eye icon at the top of the note) to switch to the formatted view.
- Print from the preview with Ctrl+P.
- That should come out in solid black on both paper and PDF.
Let us know if that helps.

That works as a workaround, thanks.
I didn’t think of something, I am running my system in dark mode, so the display was white on black. I overrode the theme in preferences to Light and now it prints correctly without using markup.

Thanks @dan26d7049e1333 for sharing this important additional detail, which I’m sure will benefit others. We’ve also filed a request to our product team to handle this better.
As we’re all set here, I’ll set the thread to resolved. Please start a new thread if you have another question. Cheers!
