what is this BULLSHIT with not being able to paste text into notes????

WHO IS THE ASSHOLE IN CHARGE OF THIS APP, that I actually liked?? Lose him immediately and reinstate the paste function, geniuses…

Err… Could you be a bit more specific about your problem: device type, OS version, app version, etc.? If it’s a mobile device, you might actually have a problem with the Keyboard, not with Simplenote. The app is working fine for me on iOS.

So it looks like this is not just me.
    erfu2 – try being a bit/lot more civil

I copy text with line breaks from Simplenote on IOS iPhone pro max 13 and paste it into gMail. The resulting pasted text is stripped of ALL line breaks. This has beeen happening for several weeks.

@plattj Testing this myself, I see that Gmail does indeed not respect the line breaks from Simplenote, but when I paste the same content into other apps, like Notes, it does carry them over. Since the space remain in other apps I suspect there’s something specific to Gmail removing them. Can you let me know if I’m incorrect and you see the trouble pasting from Simplenote to other apps?

@erfu2 I think you may behaving trouble in the Web App. Due to limitations in browsers we aren’t able to show a paste option when you right click. However, you can still paste using your computer’s paste short cut keys. For example for me on a Mac it’s command + v. I hope that helps

i experience this on my windows 11 hp notebook pc. the paste option is simply missing in the right-click menu and ctrl v doesn’t work

  • @zakeyone we’ve implemented a custom right-click menu in the Simplenote web app. Due to limitations in browser APIs, this does mean that we are unable to include a paste function within that menu. However, ctrl+v should still work for pasting text into Simplenote.

If you’re having trouble using that keyboard shortcut, though, could you let us know what web browser and browser version you’re using when this problem occurs? And could you try testing in another web browser to see if you’re able to use the keyboard shortcut for this from there?

The Copy from Simplenote and Paste to Gmail App in iPhone 13 Pro Max IOS 16.6.1 strips out all Line breaks. It does not do this when pasted into Apple Mail or Notes etc..

A Copy from Apple Notes into Gmail App in iPhone works fine and preserves the line breaks. Therefore the issue is with Simplenote.

    This is the original Simplenote.

This is the paste into the GMail App on iPhone

@plattj thank you for sharing those screenshots! I have reported this to our team for further investigation.

I am having the same problem, I am using Firefox 141.0.3. I copied text from a webpage into notepad and am trying to paste it in Simplenote with control + v, via the firefox browser. I always worked like this, but now it does not work anymore. Please help.

  • Unknown's avatar

Could you please help me too, since the issue still exist. I am copy/pasting from notepad into simplenote using firefox 141.0.3 (64 bits) with ctrl+v. Never had the issue before until today. Thank you in advance.

Found the solution from the ctrl-v post. I came to this post via a google search, so I noticed this newer post called “ctrl-v” with the solution for my firefox browser:

(to add, I wish I could edit or delete comments, but this option is turned off here, please activate! thank you)

What did work was going to the security settings for https://app.simplenote.com/ :

    • click the lock to the left of the URL in the address bar
    • click on “Connection secure >”
    • click on “More information”
    • click on “Permissions”
    • block “Override keyboard shortcuts”

The steps are similar for Chrome, but different enough to potentially trip someone up. This was written in 9/2025.

    1. Go to app.simplenote.com within Chrome
    2. Click lock icon on left of URL
    3. From dropdown, click “Connection Secure”
    4. From next dropdown, click “More Information”
    5. In the new window that appears, click the “Permissions” tab
    6. Find the option for “Override keyboard shortcuts” and uncheck “Use Default”
    7. On the right of this option, bullet the radio button for “Block” and close the window
    8. Refresh app.simplenote.com and enjoy Cmd+v.

I am in Chrome and noticed that the copy paste is now working.

The directions indicated a lock icon, I see only a settings icon

    Then – Connection is Secure

    Then – Learn More

This is different from the answer described. Perhaps it has been fixed in general and the menu changed.

  • Hey @erfu2,

This is a known issue that affects the Simplenote web app in Firefox and Firefox-based browsers. The team is aware of it and a fix is in the works, though I don’t have a specific timeline for when it’ll ship.

In the meantime, a few workarounds that should help:

    • Use Ctrl+Shift+V instead of Ctrl+V. It works in Firefox even when regular paste doesn’t.
    • Shift+Insert also works for most users.
    • As plattj mentioned, opening Simplenote in Chrome or Brave avoids the issue entirely if switching browsers is an option.

We’ll update the forum when the fix goes out. Thanks for raising it, and glad to hear you’ve been enjoying the app otherwise.

  • Hi @plattj

Thanks for your assistance. You’re right that Chrome works fine here. The issue is specific to Firefox and its clipboard handling. The menu layout you noticed changing is just Chrome updating its UI over time, nothing on our end.
