server with problem?

  • Hi @kamonadevi,

Would you try checking the network settings?

For example, if you’re using a router, you may try resetting it. Please see if your network has any sort of blocking or filtering installed on it as well. One example would be this: https://pi-hole.net

I also cannot sync notes from Brazil.

Unfortunately, I am unable to access simperium.com from Brazil. I use
the Simplenote desktop app, which relies on Simperium for note
synchronization, but it is not working.

My access works fine when I use a VPN with a connection from other
countries, but not from Brazil. I have also tried different internet
    providers without success.

I would appreciate any assistance in resolving this issue.

  • @regispires, Are you unable to access simperium.com all the time, or does it work for you intermittently?

If you’re on VPN, does the sync always work for you, both for the desktop and web app?

From the reports we’ve received, the sync issue can sometimes resolve on its own. So, we wonder if it’s the same for you as well. Thank you.

We Brazilians have been dealing with this problema for a long time. I’m thinking about saving my notes using a VPN and cancelling my account.

  • @brunocasarini Thanks for letting us know and we apologize for the inconvenience. We’ll take a note on it.

If you’d like to export your notes, here’s a guide should you need it: https://simplenote.com/help/#export

After this sarcastic and polite “fuck you, we will not solve the issue”, I’ve exported and deleted my account.

Actually I get the same feeling! Wow

  • Unknown's avatar

They fixed it, works for me.

I also wonder if there will be a fix or not. Go the same isue from Germany. Works only with VPN to US.

As a ping to 192.0.84.247 works (simperium.com), it is a DNS issue! Maybe you can also consider using more than one DNS name for resolving? However it looks like a bigger DNS configuration issue. I have this with google DNS server on 8.8.8.8. With my smartphone carrier, it can connect.

@digitalkoch. Could you please try traceroute to the simperium IP? Could you try it on the working (smartphone) connection as well as the failing connection? I believe that packets are being dropped somewhere along the route. Ping may be working because it is somehow at a lower level.

I just want to mention an apparent glitch in the forum software that affects long threads like this one. The list of related pages on the first page shows [1 2 4 >], the list on the last page shows [< 1 3 4], while the middle pages both show [< 1 2 3 4 >]. I suspect this may be due to the first and last pages only having one next/prev arrow (< or >), while the middle pages have both arrows.

By the way, is it possible to view these forum threads in reverse chronological order, newest first? It’s pretty inconvenient to open a thread, scroll to the bottom, select the last page, and scroll to the bottom, just to see the latest post.

@johnswift37 it is not a package issue. It does not resolve the hostname. if I use VPN it also opens the website of simperium.com

But without VPN it does not find an IP for simperium.com

  • After this sarcastic and polite “fuck you, we will not solve the issue”, I’ve exported and deleted my account.

@brunocasarini and @lazarevkristijan I’m very sorry if that was the impression we gave with our last response 😞 That’s definitely not the intention. This issue has just been really challenging to pin down.

@johnswift37 Viewing the threads in reverse chronological order isn’t possible yet, unfortunately. Thanks again for helping us though!

@digitalkoch Thanks for sharing what you’ve found so far too. Hopefully, we’ll have more information and a solution soon.

    Hi @staff-fred, @staff-cara!

The same issue started happening here, but I’m more than happy to run tests and give you whatever information you ask. My apologies if some of this was already said in this very long thread.

    What I observe:
    * On my android App, I can’t log in using my home internet. Mobile works fine.
    * On the computer, I can’t log in using the app, nor with any 3rd party app (tried nvAlt, sncli, nvpy). But using the web page works!

    * DNS is fine and resolves the same address via multiple different servers.

It appears that the web-page hits api.simplenote.com, but the apps hit auth.simperium.com.

    Here is a traceroute for auth.simperium.com: https://ctrlv.link/jAYr
Heres the same traceroute for TCP: https://ctrlv.link/dY1j

(sorry for the weird link – I can’t seem to upload screenshots here)

  • @decaffeinateddelectably9a86bdd403

Thanks for the detailed report and for being willing to help us troubleshoot! 🙏

Could you try restarting your Wi-Fi router or modem, which may assign you a new IP address from your ISP and resolve the connection issue?

If that doesn’t help, could you please share a few more details so we can dig deeper?

    • The operating systems and versions on the devices you’re using
    • The Simplenote version installed on each
    • Whether you’re using any VPN or custom DNS
    • The IP address of the devices that can’t log in
