Mac future OS compatibility warning from Apple

My MAC w/ Tahoe OS26 says “Support Ending for Intel-based Apps This version of “Simplenote” will not open in a future release of macOS.”

  • Hi @amilholland,

Thanks for posting about this. The warning you’re seeing is expected – the version of Simplenote available in the Mac App Store (v2.21) is an older Intel-only build, and Apple is letting you know it won’t be supported in a future macOS release.

The good news is there’s a newer version of Simplenote (v2.26.1) that runs natively on Apple Silicon. It’s available as a direct download from GitHub rather than the Mac App Store.

    Here’s how to switch:

    1. Quit Simplenote and optionally remove the current version from your Applications folder. Your notes are safely stored in your Simplenote account, so nothing will be lost.
      • You can export your notes as a fallback from your Simplenote app settings.
    2. Download the latest macOS release from: https://github.com/Automattic/simplenote-electron/releases/latest (look for the .dmg file)
    3. Open the downloaded .dmg and drag Simplenote into your Applications folder.
    4. Launch Simplenote and sign in. Your notes will sync back automatically.

Once installed, the compatibility warning should no longer appear.

Let us know if you have any questions!
