Word count discrepancy
-
I use Simplenote on both Firefox and my Android phone, all the latest versions. Everything syncs perfectly fine, there are no other issues. I noticed the word count differs based on which device I’m viewing it on, sometimes up to hundreds of words if the average word count of the note is in the thousands. This is somewhat annoying and I would love to know if it’s possible to fix.
I haven’t had the chance to check it on other devices, but I’ve experimented a little and it seems that the mobile app considers words separated by ellipses, dashes, or slashes (e.g. hello/hi or hello…hi) to be separate words while the desktop version does not. On a more recent note, I found that the word count was different by over 200 words (4029 on phone, 3793 on computer). There are simply not enough dashes, slashes, or ellipses in the note to make that number possible. It’s typical literary writing, no fancy special characters or weird styles. I can’t think of any other reasons why there would be this much of a difference. Any ideas?

Thanks for taking the time to dig into this and share such detailed observations.
I’ll report this to our team so we can take a closer look. In the meantime, if you notice any patterns (specific characters, long paragraphs, etc.) that seem to trigger the mismatch, feel free to share them. That could help us narrow it down.
