I have exactly the same issue. Tried reinstalling, forgot password, but still the same issue. It keeps saying ‘Could not login with the provided email address and password’. On my other device, it shows that the notes are not syncing. This problem first occurs around 20 hours ago.

Hi. Do you have a good internet connection? Are you able to reach wordpress.com and simperium.com? Are you able to upload files through your router/firewall?

  • @usatechexec Could you share with us a bit more about this? Are you still unable to login to your account? Are you trying to login through the web app, the desktop app, or one of the mobile apps?

@fawwazyusran if you’re still running into this issue, the suggestions from johnswift37 are a good place to start troubleshooting. You may also want to see if you experience the same issues from another network. Please let us know how it goes!

I have the same problem since yesterday. Sync doesn’t work due to failure of server connection.

I get the error: “app.976bcf9….js:29 WebSocket connection to wss://api.simperium.com/sock/1/chalk-bump-f49/websocket’ failed:”

api.simperium.com is open, there is no blocking firewall or something else. I checked it in different networks on different gadgets – it doesn’t work…

It seems like a lot of people are having the same problem. Any way to fix this?

I just wanted to cast my vote to look into this. I have experienced a failure to access my notes since 9 hours with nvALT unable to establish a connection to the Simplenote server and the Simplenote web browser being empty with an error that there is not server connection. So there definitely seems to be an issues on the server end.

  • Unknown's avatar

today, for me it’s working again. Server Connection established.

Seems like the problem is solved?

  • Unknown's avatar

I still have the same issues. No server connection in the web app (and an empty note list) and time out request when nvALT tries to contact the server.

Could anyone having these connection problems try ‘nslookup simperium.com’ and let us know the results? If you cannot access nslookup, try entering ‘simperium.com’ in a browser and see what the result is. It would also help if you could identify your internet provider, in case this is related to a specific company. I suspect that this is a DNS problem, not a server problem, and these results should tell us that.

I did a look up in terminal. I get this answer:

    Non-authoritative answer:

    Name: simperium.com

    Address: 192.0.84.247

Simperium.com in the browser is (equally) not reacting and eventually a “failed to open page”.

Since so many people are having this issue does it seem reasonable that it should be a DNS error?

    Thanks, Dan

Hi @johnswift37, it seems you understand something about the sync issues to the simperium.com server. It also seems people from several parts of the world are experiencing this at the same time, so something must suddenly have changed somewhere to create this issue.

If it is a DNS error that can be solved are the procedures to do this explained somewhere?

    Thanks!

I have also been having this issue on and off for about a week. Simplenote will just stop syncing on certain devices, white it continues to work in some others, though they’re all connected to the same network. It’s especially bad on the web version at app.simplenote.com

Only my phone app stays updated. Can log in the web app but all the notes disappeared when I logged back in. Imported notes from my phone are not syncing. Re-installed the windows desktop app then it wouldn’t let me log in even after a password change.

  • @hirslund, nvALT is a third-party application that we don’t offer support for. Can you check to see if the Simplenote web app or Simplenote desktop apps are working for you? If they are, I’d suggest reaching out to the nvALT developers directly to report the issue.

@mmaluff, Can you try logging in to the Simplenote web app from within a web browser at https://app.simplenote.com/?

Then, please check the notes from there to see if they are all correct and up to date.

If they are, you can safely log out and log back in to the Simplenote app on all your devices. When you log in again, all of the notes that are stored on the Simplenote service will be re-synced and that should resolve any syncing issues going forward.

If you aren’t seeing the correct notes in the web app or another Simplenote app, please let us know and we can continue troubleshooting from there. Please let us know:

    • What devices you use Simplenote on
    • Their operating systems and versions
    • The Simplenote versions on each

@tremendousboldlya92b5cf302, do you see any errors in the mobile app at all, or does it appear to be syncing without issue? If so, could you double check and make sure you’re logging in to the same account in the web app? You can see the email address associated with your Simplenote account in the mobile app by navigating to Menu > Settings — it’s listed under the “Account” heading.

    Hello,
thanks for the great app. Unfortunatel my notes since 2018 disappeared on the web interface, so I can’t export them in zip(txt) format. (By the way It would be nice to have that feature in the app, maybe with creation date included in the note, or as the name of the txt.)
On the web interface I have the Server WiFi sign crossed out. Using Firefox Nightly 126.01a (uBlock turned off), Android 7.0, Samsung Galaxy Tab S2. When I try to log in with password I get this message (with the code from email, I can login, only there is no notes):
    Unauthorized

The server could not verify that you are authorized to access the URL requested. You either supplied the wrong credentials (e.g. a bad password), or your browser doesn’t understand how to supply the credentials required.

On Android the App Version is: 2.33. I am using the same account on the web and on the Samsung Tab. On the app when I try to see the history I get the “Could not retrieve history.” response. Except that, the app does work, with the notes in it, just can’t retrieve history.
Could You help me please with this, so to have the history of notes, or at least the notes on the web? Its a good feedback to see the note on the web interface, to make sure sync is working, and the notes are on the server.

I’ve got a lot of notes. Maybe I reached a limit of some kind? Thank you in advance for your help.

    Best regards,
    Charlie

EDIT:And as I finished the post, the errors gone, and it works again! The note are there on the web, and the history is there in the Android app :). Only two question remains: is there a limit for the number of the notes? Will it be in the future possible to export the note, with the creation time as the name of the exported .txt file?
    Thanks again.

@mikerockwell If I login to the web app, I get a totally blank app with none of my notes on it. However, if I use a VPN into a different country (I’m from Paraguay), it works fine in all devices, including the web app.

I use Simplenote on: Pop OS 22.04, Chrome OS 132.0.6834.94, Android 14, and browser versions on Chrome and Firefox. All show the exact same problem.

I really don’t think it’s an app problem though, the problem is, as others have mentioned in this thread, that simperium.com has been down from my country for weeks. If I connect to a VPN based in the US, it works perfectly.

Неllo. I have this problem to.
    I can’t sync my notes.
Doesn’t work on my phone or computer.
    Internet is fine. Everything works.
It starts working when I connect to a mobile operator.
Now the problem is still there.

Simperium.com in the browser is (equally) not reacting and eventually a “failed to open page”.

    Tracert

    Tracert mobile is work

  • Unknown's avatar

I just tried a tracert myself and was surprised that the route to simperium goes from Virginia to Texas via Stockholm (!) and San Francisco. That does seem to indicate a mixup in routing, though I am not having any sync problems.
