Web login always shows captcha popup (eg “select squares with motorcycles”)

The “I’m not a robot” always pops up a captcha image check for me, whenever I log in and click the check box.

I’m suspecting this means the recaptcha integration is somehow misconfigured. It should only be doing this relatively rarely when it suspects an issue, certainly not every time. Simplenote is the only site using recaptcha which I’m having this happen on.

It wouldn’t be so much a problem if Simplenote didn’t require re-logging in so often – I wish if I didn’t open it on a particular browser for a few weeks it could still stay logged in when I return. A 6 month expiry seems more appropriate than whatever it is. Simply opening simplenote in the browser is actually a real pain for me, this is really harming my experience of it.

Hi. You may need to allow “Cross-Site Tracking” in order to save the cookie that retains the login. Also, you may not be able to use private (igcognito) browsing.

Thanks for the response. To me the captcha task is the main issue rather than the retention of my login, which was just an aggravating factor.

I use Firefox, usually on Linux. Today I was using Firefox on Windows and it prompted for a login but did NOT ask me to do a captcha task, which was a nice change but does add some weight to a suspicion I had than my use of Linux may have been triggering something with recaptcha.

The thing is, I log in to a lot of different sites that use recaptcha that don’t make me do the task – same browser, same OS, with Simplenote being an exception, making me think there was something up with the configuration of recaptcha on Simplenote in particular.

  • @thomasrutter Thank you for sharing your feedback.

We’re currently focusing on enhancing the login experience for Simplenote and might even eliminate the need for recaptcha. While we can’t give a concrete timeline just yet, we’re making progress. Your feedback is invaluable to us in this process. Thanks again!
