Validate tag field length when adding/editing tags

    Simplenote version: 2.23.2
OS: MS Windows 11 Pro (Version 10.0.26200 Build 26200)
Browser: Brave 1.84.141 (although i’m using an app, not opening via browser)
    Device: Acer TravelMate P214-53

The current version allows creating (adding) a tag without validating the input, as a result, it’s possible to add long text into a tag field. If by mistake a very long text is pasted, then removing it with Ctrl-Z is not possible. It is extremely painful to remove these tags with the delete button.

Example: In my clipboard, I have multiple items saved, along with text “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit.” and also the actual name I plan to use for my new tag “random_text“. As my new tag name, I accidentally pasted the long sentence, and automatically, I have so many new tags created. It would be extremely helpful to validate input size when creating new tags or editing old tags. If the user pastes a long paragraph, it will be an extremely “fun” exercise removing a ton of new tags.

  • Hi @hx2142

You’re right that there’s currently no validation preventing overly long text from being added as a tag, which can definitely cause the situation you described. I’ve gone ahead and submitted a feature request to our development team to add tag length validation when creating or editing tags.

While I can’t give an exact timeline for when this might be implemented, your feedback is now on our radar.
