Undo

I use SimpleNote a lot on both a laptop and Android phone. On a laptop if you accidently delete part of a note you can simply press CTRL & Z to undo. However today I delete part of a note from my Android phone (accidently), what would be ideal is if there was an “undo” option available in SimpleNote via the menus or is there a way to enable it?

Depending on how old the lost content was, you might be able to recover it from the History, in the (…) menu. Copy the content to a new temporary note first, to preserve any newer content.

  • Hi @robertmitchelluk 👋

We do recommend checking the note revision/history as suggested by @johnswift37 (thanks for helping out in the forums!!). Apart from checking in the mobile app, you may also want to head over to the web app at https://app.simplenote.com to see if you can recover the note revision there.

    I hope this helps!

    Hi folks

For me as I am sure for many, a note app is essential for organising work and other aspects of life. I have been using Xiaomi Notes up till now, a great app on the phone but with the terrible limitations of synchronization or migrating to other makes of phone. In view of this I have recently began using Simplenote, wow!! What a revolution! Amazing. No comparison to other options such as OneNote or Evernote, thanks to it’s synchronization, flexibility, speed and practicality. Personally I think it’s amazing all appart from ONE THING: The lack of the undo and redo options on Android.

While these steps explained above can probably recover all or most deleted text, the process is combersomb and complicated and absolutely limits the kind of speed and flow of work I am used to with Xiaomi Notes, in which undo and redo are always present and continually used buttons.

For that reason I BEG the guys and girls with the know how who are developing this app, to get this feature up and running ASAP. Pretty please!

    Cheers guys.

“Personally I think it’s amazing all apart from ONE THING: The lack of the undo and redo options on Android.”

I cannot agree more with peterwoodman27

The lack of Undo is a showstopper for me. It’s crazy. History is not sufficient. The first time I lost a bit of data with a slip of the finger on Android I had to roll all my notes back to Keep.

I hated OneNote the first time I tried it in 2003, but after the disappointment above, I tried the latest versions and they are not too bad. I’m actually using it on Android and Win, cautiously.

But I still see people losing data. SimpleNote and OneNote need a local, time-stamped storage where people can quickly recover data that did not synch properly. Maybe in 50 yrs this will not be needed. It is now.

Assume every tenth transaction will fail silently and invisibly to the programmer. Design to this assumption.

I am ready to donate but I need data safety, starting with Undo.

    Thank you.

Another thing. There needs to be a sync status indicator / button visible in the corner of the eye at all times. This way, when you enter sometime really important or rest for a few seconds, you can trigger and check the sync. “Automatic” is never sufficient. Automatic fails over and over. Even Google Drive fails silently all the time, even after 14 yrs of development.

  • Thanks for sharing your thoughts on having an undo feature in the Android app, @peterwoodman27 and @jxg16! I’ve made sure to log these in our report that’s tracking demand for this feature.

I’ve also logged this for you, @jxg16!

Just chiming in my support for an undo option for iPhone Simplenote. I lost an entire weeklong food plan for a camping trip when I did not quite click “Copy” and instead deleted the entire note.

I’ve never used it since reporting the above. Because if you can lose work in an instant it is unusable. It shows zero respect for the users. I’m using Keep, OneNote, and Obsidian which have their problems but nothing like this.

@busynessgirl2 and others who have this issue, I recommend checking the history of your note to go back to previous versions the app has saved for you to recover content you’ve accidentally removed. While not a granular as an undo button, it will have a previous version of your notes saved that has the content you need. You can access it by taping the 3 dots in a circle in the upper right of the note

how do I recover my planes though? When I got my app deleted? I really needed it.

  • @chunting911 Could you please provide more details about what you mean by “recovering your planes”? Are you referring to resetting your password?

If your concern isn’t related to the Undo feature, it might be more beneficial for you to start a new thread. Thanks!

no i accidentally deleted the app I re downloaded it and my 1 year planes collection is gone

@chunting911. If you login to Simplenote using the email and password you created, you should find the notes you created. You can also login to the web app at app.simplenote.com.

Also, what device/computer are you using Simplenote on, and is it the Simplenote app for that platform, or the web version?

But, I’m not sure if you’re using Simplenote, since it stores notes, small text files, not “planes”. If you describe the problem in your own language, maybe we could figure it out better.
