Tags duplicates

Suddenly some of my tags duplicates in the tags list. And I can’t delete the duplicated tag. What has happened?

Hi. Which app/platform are you using? And does it persist if you use a different device, or the web app?

I’m also experiencing this on both web and android. I can delete the duplicate tag but there’s no way for me to know which tag is actually used on notes (maybe it’s both even).

Hi @mohrlund 👋 Can you please share the OS and app version you’re having trouble with the duplicate tags?
And the same question for @friendlyoak, do you notice any similarities in those duplicated tags (e.g., has underscore like
this_tagor hyphen likethis-tag)? -
I have this issue, too. The tags that are stuck contain “-“.
“How-To” and “Daily-Log”.
How can I get rid of them?

I use Linux Mint and SimpleNote – Version 2.21.0 at home.
I have the problem when I’m on the web version or when I’m on the web.
I just discovered that I can remove them on my phone (droid) and that fixed it.
I guess I don’t need any help now. Thanks for reaching out.

I’m glad to hear you were able to resolve it from your Android device. I’ve gone ahead and forwarded this along to our developers in the existing bug report, though. I can’t offer an estimated timeframe for a fix, but hopefully they’ll find one soon.

I am having duplicate tags. My tags have hyphen (-). I use Simplenote on both windows app and android app.
Please advise how to avoid these duplicate tags.

@rajkut5dad22aace Yes, it’s a known issue with thats with hyphen (-).
To avoid this, we’d suggest using tags that don’t use hyphen, when possible. To remove the duplicates, you should be able to do it from the Simplenote Android app.

I read this (after – again – lots of duplicate tags.
Replaced all the – with _ (hyphen with underscore).
Underscores are okay? -
@basbuiseu You’re correct that underscores should be okay to use in tags. The issue with duplicate tags seems to be specific to hyphenated tags.

Thanks for the reply. No more hyphens… But this should be communicated to the users. I mean, the only way to keep the tags readable is hyphens or underscore. Most people are used to hyphens…

I have created a new tag with hyphens yesterday on Simpenote Windows/Electron
Today, the tag appears duplicated on
Simpenote Windows/Electron and Simplenote Android).—> will there be a fix for this?

i don’t understand why Automatic is not able to fix a simple app. I switched to Upnote, exported thousands of notes without losing one, and I’m very content!!! Best note app ever. Sorry simple note.

I am thankful for Simplenote, as it is a simple note app for text only.
But I am also worried as the Tags duplicates issue has been reported on Github in 2020 already and it has not been solved propperly, so far.
Another unsovled issue – once the creation of Tags duplicates will be solved – is how to get rid of the existing tag duplicates. -
Upnote is as simple as Simplenote. The steps to make a note are exactly the same. The only difference is, you can just use more options if you want to. That’s why I was so happy with Upnote; I needed something as simple as Simplenote. Don’t get me wrong; I loved Simplenote, but this copy tag issue is going on for years now. Serious.
