Synchronization upload halted #1575

    Observed

    New or changed notes on my Android Galaxy Phone are not synched with the Simplenote Online Database.

    Reproduced

    Samsung Galaxy A32:

    I creted a note yesterday (1703.2024),
    it is not synchonrized are not synched with the Simplenote Online Database.

    I have tried various WLAN connections
    I have tried mobile conncecation only.
    I have tried new start of Simplenote.
    I have tried new start of Samsung Galaxy A32.

    Software

    Android Version: 13
    Simplenote Version: 2.30 (162)

    Thank you for this report! So we can better troubleshoot things, can you please try the web app at app.simplenote.com on the same device and let us know if it is able to sync or it has the same trouble?

    It will also help to know if this is a new note, edits to an existing note, or both, which is having trouble syncing.

    I could use the web version app.simplenote.com on the device but
    however, the note on the Simplenote Android App did not synch.

    It concered an existin notes,
    which finally synched days after.

    And I miss – like in the Windows Desktop App – a warning message:
    This message was not synchronized.

  • You mentioned using version 2.30. We have since released some updates to the Android app with performance improvements. Please update Simplenote to version 2.32. 

    Let us know if the issue persists after updating the app.

    Thank you for giving that a try! Between the time the note was created and synced, were you using any VPN, ad-blocker, or other modifications to your network connection?

    No, I am on my home Wifi.

    And I have another note that has not been synched for two days whereas notes from my PC have been downloaded or updated.

    What I expected

    Re-establishing a (good) internet connection should synch (upload) any note automatically.
    
    When closing the Simplenote App without successful synch a warning message should appear: "Not all notes have been synchronized ".
    This is the case with  Simplenote for Windows 11 (electron).

    What happened instead
    The note is not synched / updated automatically.
    Whereas “newer” notes (created on other devices) are downloaded automatically.
    Work-around: I have to change the note, then it is synched / updated.

    I have one suggestion. Do you have two Android devices, and did you initialize one of them by restoring a backup from the other? I did this with two Apple iPads and the second iPad became a clone of the first, resulting in sync confusion. If this is your problem, you need to delete the Simplenote app and its data from one of the devices, then reinstall it.

    That said, would you mind sharing where you’re located? We’re curious to see whether your location might be preventing you from reaching the sync server. Thanks!

    No, it is a Samsung Galaxy S6 Tab and a a Samsung Galaxy A32 Phone.
    The problem occurs on both of them.

    The problem occurring on both devices would be expected if one was somehow a clone of the other. You could try deleting the Simplenote app, and all its data, from the newer device, then reinstall it. That would ensure that each device has a different, clean copy of the app.

    I hope the sync issue from your Android devices is resolved now (by using your workaround of changing the old notes).

    However, if you’re considering deleting and reinstalling the Simplenote app, we strongly advise you to ensure all your notes are synced first in the Simplenote Web app https://app.simplenote.com/

    If not, you might have to back up any unsynced notes before proceeding with the deletion. If the notes aren’t synced, they won’t be recoverable after reinstallation.

    Unfortunaltey, it is NOT resovled by changing the old notes – even various times.

    And so they are not syched with the Simplenote Web app https://app.simplenote.com either.

    And I do not realize automatically that a note is not synched.

    Hi @staff-james,
    no I did not receive it.

    But I have edited a hand full of notes today while traveling (with mobile data access).
    Returning back to my home and PC, I have continued working on the notes.
    And I have recognized that the notes were not sychnroized before and I have lost the changes I made on my mobile.

    I can confirm this is happening on iOS too.

    https://app.simplenote.com/ correctly contains all the notes.

    BUT the desktop app and ios app do not contain the newly created notes.
