Synch issue
-
I am using SN on a PC and my Android phone and tablet. No issues all these years, but lately, I am getting the error on my PC, “Closing the app with unsynchronized notes could cause data loss” Hoping to find a fix soon. It shows I can no longer rely on it.

I tried to edit the above but it gives me an error. So, I am adding this info.
At no time is my PC ever disconnected from the network. So, it is certainly not an offline issue.
Also, how exactly do I back up the contents as a json file? I see no option to do this. -

Sorry for the late response! We had an issue with sync last week but the situation should improves now: https://forums.simplenote.com/forums/topic/simplenote-servers-performance-issues-august-2023/
You can export a JSON backup file in the Android app by tapping the Navigation Drawer > Settings, and tap the “Export data” option under the Account section.
More details here: https://simplenote.com/help/#export
If only a few notes aren’t syncing, you can copy the text to another location as a backup, sign out from the app, sign back in, and paste the content back into the app.
Let us know if you’re still having sync issues after signing out and back into the app.

I am back like a dirty shirt. Simplenote is something I cannot do without. So, I never did go away. Thanks for your belated reply. It is always better late than never.
The above I posted in 2023 and here I am in 2025 having the same issue. Why is there no sync button in Simplenote? I can see not having it open on two devices when I am making a change, but if I’m not changing anything I should be able to have it open on multiple devices, right? Right now this is really annoying me and I wish you had a solution – a simple solution for this longstanding issue.

Okay, iI resolved it – simply un-installed it and reinstalled. Works like a top. I just think it had a bad case of indigestion. I’m good.

Good. One thing I learned a while ago is that, if you get a new device, you must delete Simplenote and its data from the new device, then make a clean install. It seems like each copy of Simplenote has a unique device identifier that allows the server to recognize them. When you initialize a new device by cloning an old one, you clone that Simplenote identifier, which causes sync confusion.

Thanks. I did get a new phone and I have followed the instructions on that. But the PC was never cloned from the phone, of course, and the PC was where the problem was happening. But I reinstalled Simplenote pon the PC and I’m off to the races.😜
