Sync to 3rd party app is broken, why did you do this?!

Login to simple note now requires a code received by email rather than password. As a result, sync to any 3rd party app is broken. And for many of us, it means being screwed. Why did you do this?! It should only be an option! Please bring back regular login with password.

  • Hi, @sucribe! Logging in with a password is still an option:

And while we don’t provide support for any third-party integrations, if you’ll let us know which one(s) you’re using should you continue having trouble, we might be able to look into it!

Sorry i missed your reply. But excuse me.. Why do you need to know the app name? There many, and i use more than one. In the end, login with link should be the option and with password the default.. Then it would probably work again. I’m sure you know that, and it’s kinda hard to believe breaking all this was not intentional.. But i believe that you’ll help. Thanks.

Why do you need to know the app name?

We were offering to help with your specific situation.

We changed the login to default to a code to help better secure the login process on Simplenote. This helps in protecting your account and notes from bot attacks. I understand that update can cause unexpected results with 3rd party integrations, but this was not the intention. That said, we will not be removing this update.

Investigating this further, to assist you, I do see our team put in a special place where you can log in manually as before: https://app.simplenote.com/login-with-password/. I hope this helps you get your 3rd party integration working.

I’ve been away, sorry. The app is mostly CintaNotes. I’m not one of their dev and it doesn’t seem they’re reacting to this issue. I don’t ask you to remove your update. Just make a little change so that login with email is an option and not by default. That’s how it should’ve been since the beginning, you’re forcing this change onto us and even though (maybe) not so many complained about it, i’m far from syncing cintanotes with 3rd party apps..!!

  • No worries, @sucribe! Logging in with a username/password is still possible through https://app.simplenote.com/login-with-password/, so kindly see if there’s a way to use this with your CintaNotes integration.

Well i’m not a dev and as said they don’t seem to react to this.. Not sure why i have to repeat? Your reply looks like you haven’t read me.. So problem is NOT solved AT ALL still.

  • Hi @sucribe,

We understand your preference for login via password. Please be aware that you are not forced to log in via email. You can always switch to password login.

You can log in using your existing password without needing the verification code. You can then ignore these emails or automatically filter them to the trash. If you’re using the web, you can also bookmark this page to log in without generating an email: https://app.simplenote.com/login-with-password/

Please let your 3rd party app developers know that Simplenote offers two login methods if they need to make adjustments.

You are obviously NOT reading my posts since you repeat yourselves over and over, are you human..?? I’m left wondering. It’s pointless talking to you so far. As said, you have broken daily usage of MANY people. Did you even ask people their thoughts before making this change? Probably not.. Complete lack of respect..

  • We don’t officially support for third-party applications that are using Simplenote as their sync system. However, Simplenote’s macOS, iOS, Android, and other desktop OS applications are open source. Developers are free to follow the progress of our applications and explore the code from there. There are RSS feeds available for the releases and the repositories can be watched by anyone with an account on GitHub.

Looking at CintaNotes specifically, I see on their release notes page that their most recent release is from September 2023 and the release prior to that is from 2019. It may be that the application is not actively developed or isn’t getting the attention from it’s developers that it used to. I can’t say that for sure, though, that’s just based on the information in their release notes page.

Was there something specific about CintaNotes that you preferred over using Simplenote’s web or other apps? I’d be happy to forward any feedback along to our developers.
