Struggling to login on Mac – able to login on iPhone
-
Hello,
I’ve used SimpleNote for a few years without issue, previously on a Windows Desktop and iPhone. I’ve now transitioned to Mac, and cannot login on the App (logging in in browser works).
When attempting to login using the app, I first get a message saying a code will be sent to my email address. This never appears, neither in my main inbox, or junk folder. I then select ‘login with password’, however I get the error message ‘We’re having problems. Please try again soon’. I know my password is correct, as I am able to use it to login in browser.
Can anybody help me figure this out please?
Thank you! -
Hi. Which version of Mac Simplenote are you using? The one from the AppStore, or the Electron version downloaded from GitHub?

I’m having the same problem. I have a new computer and downloaded the SimpleNote app from the AppStore but when I try to log in to it, it says We Are Having Problems please try later. But I can’t log in to via the website either, my browser says it can’t find the server. I know they’re no longer developing the app but this sounds like they’ve killed it. But would be good to get into the profile to download back-ups if so…

Hi @maybemazin. Simplenote is still very much alive, on both devices and web. Could you try accessing the web app on a different device (phone maybe), and possibly on a different network? There were some internet routing problems last spring, but those were resolved months ago.

Apologies @johnswift37 I missed your first reply. I’m using the App Store version of SimpleNote

Thanks for the reply @johnswift37 – I already have the app on my phone and laptop and they are working fine. However I can’t log into the app on my new desktop, where it says “‘We’re having problems. Please try again soon’ and neither can I log in to the SimpleNote website, where it says ‘Safari can’t open the page “https://app.simplenote.com because Safari cannot find the server “app.simplenote.com” . I can’t access another network though I’ve tried toggling different locations on my VPN. Could the VPN be the problem? It isn’t on my other devices.

This sounds like a name server or ad blocker problem. You need to check the configuration of the new computer. Since your other devices can get through on the same ISP network, it sounds like the problem is local to the new machine. What are the OS versions on the old and new computers? You might try turning off the VPN, to make sure it’s not the problem.

@maybemazin like @johnswift37 mentioned this is likely a VPN/firewall issue. Can you disable the VPN and try logging in?
