Some Suggestions for Improving Simplenote
I used to be a GNotes user, and due to its lack of automatic backup, I lost all my notes from 14 months, which is why I switched to Simplenote. Aside from the backup issue in GNotes, I found it to be a perfect note-taking app. My notes are 100% text-based, so Simplenote fits my requirements. The speed of opening Simplenote is as fast as GNotes, which helps me quickly jot down my thoughts and avoid losing them.
However, I believe there are some areas that need improvement. I think you should provide more options for users to choose from in the Android/iOS client. I find the Windows client to be excellent.
- Offer more themes for user customization: Can Simplenote for Android/iOS introduce more themes? Having only black and white options is too plain. Can users customize colors themselves?
- Provide a memo-style note display option: I don’t want the list mode; it looks too crowded and uncomfortable. I would like the option to display my notes in a grid format, similar to individual memos.
- Allow the option not to save empty notes: I don’t want to keep notes in which I haven’t written anything. Manually deleting them is inconvenient and can make me feel pressured when using Simplenote. It would be helpful if Simplenote could handle this simple request, something that other note apps seem to manage.
- Provide an option to prevent enlarging title text.

We don’t offer any theming options in the app beyond light and dark mode, but I’ve gone ahead and forwarded this along to our developers as a feature request!

This is something we’ve heard from other users about as well. I’ve added your comment to the existing feature request for this so our developers can better gauge interest.

@garryhorsnell If you’re using the Simplenote app on a mobile device or macOS, the spellcheck should work natively on iOS, Android, and macOS devices.
