Simplenote takes 330 MB of Cache storage

My exported notes take around 3 MB. I have quite a bit of notes, but 330 MB ?!

Occasionally, it also has issues with saving a note, the saving icon keeps spinning indefinitely:

Copying the note and recreating it works but the saving icon doesn’t disappear.

Hi. I don’t recognize your screen. Is that MacOS, or maybe Linux?

I see a similar thing on my 6-year old iPad. Storage reports 723 MB used by Simplenote, but the backup zip file is less than 4 MB. I just got a new iPad and Simplenote is using 26 MB from a new install. I see this large Storage use with other apps as well; no idea why. Maybe temp files are not being cleaned up properly.

You could try deleting and re-installing the Simplenote app. Make sure your notes are all synced first by checking the web app, app.simplenote.com.

It’s the web app. On first screen it’s Developer Tools (F12) on Brave (Chrome). System should be irrelevant for the web app, but fwiw I’m on Windows. App on Android seems to work fine, but I haven’t checked how much storage it consumes.

I see. So that really is web browser cache storage, temporary images of web pages viewed, saved for quick recall. I don’t believe Simplenote has much control over that. Also, I suspect that the scrollable sidebar document list menu may be a challenge for the browser. Remember, you can always switch to the native Simplenote app on Windows; you don’t have to use the web app.

The chart in the Application tab on the screenshot is the storage of currently opened page’s domain, which is simplenote.com, it doesn’t represent all pages.

  • @warmb576b98dc34 the browser cache used by Simplenote can grow over time, especially if you have a large number of notes. The cache is handled by your browser to help speed up loading times and improve performance, especially since you are using the Simplenote web app, which would be similar to running an actual app, but via your browser.
