Simplenote Sustainer – how to contribute if you don’t use App Store
-
I’ve just found out about the option to support Simplenote, but it seems that it has to be done through App Store. (The article does not actually mention, but it says that the subscription can be cancelled through App Store)
I don’t use App Store a lot, and besides I’m reluctant to send 30% to Apple ($20 a month is not nothing). Is there an option to allow one to subscribe directly, or something planned along those lines? I think I saw Spotify and a few others offer an option like that.
-
Just checked App Store, it’s $33 a month in Australia. Ouch. Without the Apple’s cut of $9.90, it would be a good deal more enticing.
-
I’d like to support as well. I’m supporting Logseq, for example, with $5 per month. But the value asked for SimpleNote in my case ($25) is just not doable, in my opinion.

Hi @nikitar and @ivanosantos 👋
Thank you for considering supporting Simplenote by contributing via our Simplenote Sustainer program! Right now, we can’t say for sure whether there will be cheaper plans or other subscription method, but we are collecting all of your feedback on this. I’ll make sure to pass your comments along to the rest of the team.
If you’d like to support us in other ways, you may want to check out the other products owned by our company: https://automattic.com/
For example, you may want to check out the Day One app if you like journaling – https://dayoneapp.com/. Or you’ll want to try out our Pocket Casts app if you listen to podcasts: https://pocketcasts.com/.
The Day One and Pocket Casts apps are free to use, and there is no obligation to subscribe to a paid plan to support us. If you use our products and have any suggestions or feedback to help us improve them, we will greatly appreciate it! -
I am with ivanosantos!
I would really like to support simplenote, because it is the app/service, that i really need and like: Easy to use, markdown, simple sync, works offline, clients for every os i use (+ a good web-app!).
But seriously: 23,99 Euro per month!???
My thought: Offer the posibility so support simplenote with 2 Euro, 5, Euro or 10 Euro per month and You will geht *more* money.
Yours,
Markus

I’d like to agree with some of the other contributors here. I’d like to help Simplenote but €24 is way too much.

@staff-romina Hi there. I’ve mentioned this in the main Simplenote forum when addressing the recent Server issues (thanks for resolving them again btw!
), but I’ll reiterate my point that has already been echoed here.
I want to support Simplenote, but $20 USD a month or $200 USD a year (I think) is too much.
I’d be happy to support at $5 USD a month.
I think that’s more than reasonable for a Note Taking App when I’m only paying $10 USD a month for Netflix.
Finding the right price to value proposition for your customers is an art, but once you find it, you can start reaping the windfall.
And, just make the need transparent with a quick message, like : “Due to the constantly increasing volume of users and notes, our Server costs have continued to increase. We’re happy to offer Simplenote for free to everyone, but some help would be much appreciated. If you find Simplenote a valuable addition to your everyday toolkit, please consider supporting us. Thank you.”
And, maybe give people neat little badges for different tiers of support.
Maybe :
$5(Bronze Heart)
$10(Purple Heart)
$15(Red Heart)
$20(Gold Heart)
Just a little token of appreciation and recognition for people reaching into their pockets to show support for their favorite note taking App.
Thanks for all your hard work Simplenote team! -
@simplenotefan4125 Thank you for your feedback on this!
I’ve gone ahead and forwarded this along to our team to take into consideration going forward!
