@sebadams61 The added value of Simplenote over Apple Notes is that Simplenote isn’t holding your data hostage as a bargaining chip to force you to remain in its ecosystem, devices and OS in order for you to access your personal intellectual property.
My final break with Apple’s personal data hostage business model was in 2018 in a lengthy support call that was escalated at least once. By the time I was on the phone with whoever was authorized to disclose the truth to me, the truth came out:
If I wanted a local copy of my Apple Notes, I would have to download all 2000 of them individually. If I wanted access to my original, personal content, I had to run the Apple OS everywhere and borrow my intellectual property from Apple off their servers and continue to pay whatever they demand for every other part of the ecosystem: forced-into-the-cloud services and storage; and overpriced devices that are no longer cutting edge in design – and trailing in design in many cases. There were similar issues with photographs – I was “allowed” to download a set of thumbnails, but the full resolution images were held hostage in the cloud. Of course I could have them…if I downloaded them one at a time. 10,000 of them.
Maybe that isn’t the case any longer. I hope not. But it taught me an important lesson. Mark Zuckerberg was already holding my social network hostage. I wasn’t going to allow Apple to hold my personal data hostage.
As @staff-romina keeps noting here: Export and backup your Notes! Last I checked Apple doesn’t give that option, because they hold your data hostage to force you to remain in their ecosystem. The value of Simplenote for me is that they provide a service in a reasonable manner that doesn’t force me into (yet another) Faustian bargain with big tech. I’ll pay a sustainer gift monthly for that! I already plugged in my number to the survey. -
Hallelujah…it appears to be fixed! I’ve been using Simplenote since 2010 and never had a problem until a few days ago…when a four-page reply I’d been working on for weeks (a cumulative summary of 100+ notes of research and thoughts) was corrupted due to the syncing issues and I lost over half. Thank GOD I had printed so I could edit…and could just re-type.
Echoing others thoughts…I’m happy to pay! I spent last night looking at other options and I don’t really want to switch. After 13 years, Simplenote is like an old friend and fits like a favorite pair of shoes. BUT…$200 a year? I don’t pay that much for all of the other apps I use combined…and I pay for the premium version of all my favorite apps.
I saw the option for the Simplenote Sustainer when I was on the site trying to figure out what the heck was going on the other night and immediately clicked so I support one of my favorite apps. And immediately clicked back after an internal “Yeah…right!”
Glad you guys figured out and fixed the problem…keep up the good work…and give us a way to support you that’s actually reasonable :-)

Looks good to me. I’ve done a bunch of my “usual” activity, which involves a lot of copy/pasting from other apps, and between notes. Basically, 4 days of normal activity compressed into one session. Did not observe any of the previous glitches: double inserts, random deletes, etc. So it looks like Simplenote is back to normal; “Normal service has been resumed”.

It’s unfortunate, my notes are duplicating and not saving across devices. I typed up notes during an important 1-hour phone call and it did not save. :/

One trick I found was to use history on the note that did not sync. You have to do it quick. In most cases, I was able to quickly copy the notes back.

I had some dupe issues/lines as well. I ended up diffing backups from different points-in-time and from different devices using a converter tool. https://forums.simplenote.com/forums/topic/reconciling-multiple-change-conflicts-from-different-backup-files/ has a link for more details but it’s not user-friendly.

Never appreciate how important my notes are until they are threatened. I can only imagine what the scholars felt like after the loss of the Library of Alexandria. I’d probably have a heart attack.
Again, happy to help support this great service at $5 / month. That seems to me like a reasonable amount. I recommend setting it up through your WordPress site where you already have things setup to engage in financial transactions.
It’s wonderful that you are committed to offering the service for free, but considering your Note Taking App is arguably the best on the market, it’s natural it’s going to attract a massive userbase with subsequent increases in Server costs.
Set up reasonable payment tiers, and maybe throw in a little something. Even just different goofy little badgesthat show up somewhere when using the Service would be neat. People like recognition for doing something extra, and paying for a free service to help out the developers definitely falls in that category. It’s a good thing to do, but a little token of appreciation definitely doesn’t go amiss.

update : tried to edit one of my notes that was previously error before, yep its still duplicating :v

…and…I spoke a bit too soon… Just started 2 new notes and I’m getting the looping circle still. This is happening when I’m using Brave Browser, but when I use Firefox, I don’t have the issue. This is a strategy I use frequently. When SN isn’t playing nice with one browser, I use a different one. It seems to be working for now, but most of this week was not good.
Thanks for things being better SN team…just seems like there might be a few more bugs to squash. -
@simplenotefan4125, I suggest you reply to your other thread on this, indicating that the server fix has not corrected your problem. And make very clear the browser/app/OS that you’re using. Also, does it happen while simply editing a note, do you need to switch focus to another app or tab to trigger it?

Thanks so much Simplenote team for an amazing service and fixing the issue. I’ve filled in the form too, I would happily pay for a subscription if at-rest encryption was added.

There has been no further update other than a request by me for assurance from the Simplenote Support Team and others that the Simplenote device and account sync’ issues have been resolved?

The issue with our severs should be resolved. If you still have trouble I recommend you try the following steps to correct it:
- Export your notes (or copy the notes to somewhere if only a few not syncing)
- Sign out and back into the app

Not sure about that. I simply changed only my email address and afterward lost all my notes. ALL OF THEM!! Over 5+ years worth. I cannot get support to respond to me. Each email I send them results only in a canned response.
I’m at my wits end here.
