Simplenote Linux client does not accept username (email address)
-
Hi,
My Simplenote Linux client was not synchronising with the web site for some days. Upgraded my client to the latest one (2.222.2). I logged out of the the client and tried to login again. After entering the username (my registered email address) I clicked on “log in with email” and got an error “could not login with the provided credentials”.
Then I tried the manual login option. On clicking “log in” after putting the email address and password, I get the same error again.
I’m sure that the user ID and password are correct – I am able to login to the website with the same credentials.
Please help.

@cheerfully88fc35e634 could you perhaps try uninstalling the app, then reinstalling it to Linux?
Once done, please let us know if the login issues persist or not.

Is there any chance you’ve changed your password recently? That can cause these problems.
Also, are you able to log in to the web app in a browser, app.simplenote.com?
-
Yes. When I was unable to login to the Linux client, I had changed the password online. Its working fine from browser and mobile (Android) clients, with the new password.
Issue is only with the Linux client.

Thanks!
Just reiterating:
The password is working for Android and web interface.
I feel that the Linux client is not even reaching the password verification phase.

Could you let us know what Linux distribution you’re using and how you installed Simplenote? Did you download one of the packages from our GitHub? Or did you install it using another method?

Simplenote Linux client does not accept username (email address) ==> same problem here, I’m not able to type in the e-mail textbox! Error in Fedora 41 using both installations:
When I’m running in terminal (
simplenotecommand), the given error when I try to enter my e-mail in the proper textbox over the app’s login page is:(simplenote:78861): IBUS-WARNING **: 16:21:59.364: Events queue growing too big, will start to drop.
(simplenote:78861): IBUS-WARNING **: 16:21:59.469: Events queue growing too big, will start to drop.
When I try to “log in manually”, the same error appears on the e-mail textbox, but not for the password textbox (in which I can type freely).

I solved by installing Simplenote version 2.21.0 from Gnome Software app (default to Fedora)

Sorry for responding so late.
My Linux client started working some time in between without me doing anything in particular. Version 2.22.2 on Linux Mint 21.3. Last install was doenloaded from the site.
I had tried 2.21.0 in between but for me it did not work.
Thanks for all the help!
