Searching on iOS is totally bugged
-
Hi,
I have one note where I type stuff and I often need to search something. When I type one of these words im looking for, in this case I chose to search “Kpkopro” it DOESNT work at all. On PC app it works. But on iOS it doesnt. I made few screenshots to show you what it does. https://imgur.com/a/YRrMY9A On the screens u can see that im going from bottom to top with the results. Last 5 results shows total bullshit and only from 6th result from bottom it shows correctly the part of the note I was looking for. Thats why its unuseable.

Hi. It looks like the character counting in Simplenote is not working correctly. I can see the word “Kpkopro” relatively near each of the highlighted results. Have you tried tapping on the blue bars along the right side? They each represent the position of one result. I’ve found that they have a better idea of the result locations than the “< >” navigation arrows.

Thanks for reply. Of course I tried that. Its just bugged. And that does not fix the problem anyway. And the whole text is in the results is not shown how I wrote it aswell. It just messed up whole lines of text.
Can anyone responsible from the support answer please and fix this? Thanks

OK. It does work with English text in the iOS app. I suspect the problem may be due to the accents in your language. It could be a general problem with the ways search and the text editor handle character counts.
-
No it doesnt work with any type of word or language. If it would be that case I would mention it. As I said, its bugged. Thats all. They have to repair it. Many years it was working fine and now its bugged.
There is no support or what? It been already 3-4 days and nobody responsible for this app answered. Even that this is the only way of communication with stuff is alarming. No ticket system, no email, no nothing.

As I said, it does work for me in English, so it is not totally bugged. I use search regularly, with no problems. Have you tried deleting the app, and its data, then re-installing? Just verify that your data is all synced by checking the web app, app.simplenote.com, before deleting the app.
Simplenote is a free service provided by Automattic. The moderators visit this forum every few days to check on new problems. You just need to be patient.

A couple more thoughts. I believe Simplenote relies on iOS components for its functioning. Is your system non-standard in any way: iOS beta, old iOS version, 3rd-party keyboard, etc.?
Also, the last iOS Simplenote version was 4.55 on November 4, 2024. Have you made any system changes since then that might account for this problem?

@trihardmack As @johnswift37 pointed out, there’s a known issue for this for non-English text/character. Here’s a similar report.
We’ll add yours, too. So thanks for bringing this up.

No no its not that case. I said that it shows bad results for the last few words in the note, but from the certain point of searched word from the end it works correctly. What you sent me is totally different case.
So I made an example, where it finds the first 10 words “drive” correctly, but it doesn’t find the 11th to 12th word correctly and it scatters the entire text and it’s impossible to understand. It does this for absolutely all words. It doesn’t matter what language it’s in. As proof that you don’t believe me, I randomly placed the ENGLISH word “drive” from top to bottom in the note and ran a search and went through 12 results, here are screenshots https://imgur.com/a/SbDCMiN that it doesn’t work. See?:) From 12 results first 10 results are showing correctly “drive” and then 11th and 12th result is showing total bullshit. It indicates completely different words than “drive” that I searched for and it scatters the entire text.
YOU CAN CLEARLY see that on 4th screenshot it points out a word “FS77” instead of word “drive” and it also hide other words from the note. Without searching the note originally looks like this – https://imgur.com/a/OZVKXs1
This is simply an application error. I would send you my entire note in which it doesn’t work, but it’s personal. Moreover, it works in the PC program. It just doesn’t work on iOS when the word is there multiple times. And it does NOT matter what word or language it is. Please fix. -
Thanks for the additional details, @trihardmack. I still have not been successful with replicating the issue on my test device, however.
Can you let us know which version of the app you’re using? In addition, have you already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app as previously suggested?
-
Have you tried this is a note that does not contain any accented characters? It works perfectly for me in notes written in English, with very large numbers of results. I suspect that there is a disagreement between the search and the text viewer regarding the accented characters.
You could create anonymous test documents in English or your language by copying some internet text into Simplenote.
-
If you create a note entirely in the iOS Simplenote app (not Windows), does search fail? As I suggested, you could do this by copying text from a web page. If search fails in that text, you could post it here for us to copy and try.

Version 4.55
Yes i tried uninstalling and installing again. Also tried on another the newest iPhone.
-
Yes, before I made this topic I tried to make new note with just Lorem ipsum text and it were doing the same error.
-
Hi @trihardmack,
We’ve tried replicating this on our end, but haven’t been able to reproduce the error. This makes it a bit tricky to pinpoint the cause without more specific information.
Could you please post a small section of the Lorem Ipsum text you used, or any other text, that reliably triggers the search error on your end? This will allow us to test it directly and hopefully identify the issue.

Alright i can send you my personal note but only to you on email. I dont wanna share it online. Let me know
