Repeatedly Asking to Confirm Email Address

  • Unknown's avatar

The Windows app keeps asking me to confirm my email address. I go through that confirmation, and then a day or three later it asks again – four times so far.

This also happened last October, and then again two months ago, and now for the third time.

I am running Simplenote 2.21.0 on Windows 10 Professional on a Lenovo
Yoga 2 laptop. I also run the app 2.26(155) on a Galaxy S21 Android.

Any suggestions? Has this happened to anyone else?

I saw this when I got my Win 10 computer a couple of years ago. Seemed like following the steps had no effect. Didn’t bother me because all my Simplenote use is on iPad.

I wonder if it’s a browser problem. I use Firefox on Windows. What are you using?

    I’m using the Windows app v. 2.21.0.

Last night I verified my email again. This morning it asked me again.

Now it’s asking for email verification every time I open the Windows app. Doesn’t seem to do that in a browser so I’ll try using that.

Has Simplenote given up on user support? They used to at least send suggestions; now I get a boilerplate email to update to the latest version and then ask on the forum.

Hi there! Support here. We have not given up on you. I’m glad you reached out here, as this seems to be affecting others too. Our investigation here will hopefully help others too.

Checking your forum username’s email toolworker1 I found a Simplenote account that’s using the same email. It looks to match what’s behind the grey bar in your screenshot above, and I can see you are indeed verified with us.

As a next step, can you try reinstalling the Simplenote Windows app to clear out any old data that could be lingering there?

It will also help to know if you try logging in a browser with that same email and password, on the same Windows computer, if you get a similar error.

Let us know how it goes.

It works OK in the Chrome browser.

Reinstalling the app doesn’t help – it still asks for address confirmation on every use.

“Changing” the email to the same address doesn’t help. The app asked again for address onnfirmation on the next use.

I experience the same thing, on a recent Dell Inspiron (64-bit) with current Windows 10 updates. It has been like this since installing the Simplenote app.

When I open the app, the Review your account popup appears. I click Confirm and a browser (Firefox) window opens, telling me to check my email. I receive the confirming email and click the link. Browser window says I’m good.

Close the app, reopen, and the popup appears again. It seems like I can just cancel (X) the popup and the app works fine. Maybe the popup is appearing inappropriately.

I never experience this in my normal use of the iOS app on iPad.

Thanks for giving that a try! We had a similar issue reported previous that was resolved by logging in and out of the app. Since that isn’t working here, and even a reinstall doesn’t help, I’ve reopened the issue with our development team, with all the details shared here.

I’m back home with my laptop (where the problem was occurring) and also my desktop.

I logged out on the laptop and logged in again, and the problem did not occur.

I don’t know if this has anything to do with the current problem – but my desktop was running version 1.15.0! Check for Updates produced “Something went wrong. Please try again later.”

Installing on the desktop from the Microsoft Store updated to 2.21.0 – and it asked for email verification. I verified, restarted on the desktop, and it did not ask for verification. Tried the laptop again and it is still OK too.

Now I go back to my own work.

  • @toolworker1 thanks for sharing these steps with us! I’m glad to hear you were able to get this working by updating the app. It’s very likely that has something to do with the issue.

If you run into anything similar again, please reach out!

    Cheers!
