Problem Report: Keeps Jumping to End of Long Note (Android)
-
This is a report, not a request for help (yet).
On a long note (about 3800 characters), when typing anywhere in the note the screen jumps to the end of the note. Cursor does not move, so typing can continue, but when it stops, the screen jumps back to the bottom again. This has been going on for months.
Workaround: I copied the entire note and pasted it into a new note. The problem has not occurred in the new note (yet).
Strangeness: It has also stopped happening in the original note, even though it wasn’t changed.

Hi @toolworker1. Looks like this is a known problem, so a fix may be coming (eventually). See

I have the same problem on Android, a Samsung S21 and A12. Today is 4/25/25 and it is not fixed. Changing Samsung keyboard setting to stop predictive text does not fix it.

@vpetunia. Have you tried just turning off “suggest corrections” for the Simplenote app alone, as described in this post: https://forums.simplenote.com/forums/topic/becoming-unusable-on-android-phone-jumping-to-bottom-of-note-bug/page/2/#post-2839 ?

That worked for me! Thanks @johnswift37!
Settings -> Samsung Keyboard settings / Suggest text corrections (English US) / Manage apps, and turn off for Simplenote.
Samsung Keyboard 5.8.20.7
Simplenote Android 2.35(179) -
@toolworker1 Glad to hear that worked for you!
@vpetunia To help us narrow this down, did you try turning off Predictive text or “Suggest text corrections” in the Samsung Keyboard settings on both your S21 and A12? Does the issue persist on both? In addition, can you share the Simplenote versions on each device?

JUMPING NOTES: Fresh install on a brand new Android Galaxy A16. Only imported 3 notes from my old phone and notes jump to the end after about 5-8 seconds. If I scroll the note back up (about 3-5 pages worth of plain text), they jump back down again. I do suspect a sync issue since SN is installed on both my phone AND my Macbook (I use the laptop as the intermediary). This is unacceptable…
-
@danajg007. Simplenote Sync is always via the remote cloud server, not between your two devices, so that’s unlikely to be the problem. What do you mean by “using the laptop as the intermediary”?
Have you tried dealing with Samsung’s implementation of predictive test, as already described in the thread?
-
Hi @danajg007
As mentioned in this thread and also by @johnswift37, the best first step would be to ensure that predictive text is disabled on the Samsung Keyboard app. That often causes such an issue and is unrelated to sync.
-
@danajg007. Are you sure you’re using the Simplenote app? The features you describe, “only imported 3 notes” and “laptop as intermediary”, are not features of Simplenote. When you install the Simplenote app and login to your account, you immediately have access to all your notes.
-
Hi all. I very much appreciate the replies and appologize for the lag in my responses.
staff-joey8: thank you!. I did have predictive text enabled and just now turned it off… fingers crossed
johnswift37: Yes it’s the correct app. My reference to laptop is that I’m transfering my notes from an older phone using One Note to a new phonw with Simplenote. MS Notes doesn’t easily export, so I go through my laptop with either text or PDF as an intermediary file so SN can recognize and import it. I have to do this one note at a time instead of a bulk transfer… hence the “3 notes” comment.
Y’all rock! -
I see. Assumed you already had Simplenote on the previous phone. Y’know you can install Simplenote on the PC, and add your notes there. They’ll be immediately accessible on the phone.
