Password reset email not arriving, nvAlt not syncing

Recently I noticed that my nvAlt app on Mac was no longer syncing with Simplenote. Checked the login settings and it claimed my password was incorrect. Strange.
Turns out I don’t remember my password either, so I go to login on the web and reset the password, but the password reset email never arrives.
Curiously, I can login on the web with an email log-in link. Love this feature, it’s great, doesn’t help with getting nvAlt to sync again though.
Any help on troubleshooting or being able to change my password without remembering my old password?
