Notice of subscription model

It’s September 2023. Simplenote has been a cross platform app that has been a useful tool to store all kinds of data from passwords to serial numbers or as an aid memoire.
I can’t remember how long Simple Note has been absolutely free but it’s been a very long time.
When presented with an annual subscription fee of £209 this presents a problem because at this time it seems to be optional for existing users, but with the threat of reduced features this promises to make Simplenote too expensive and unusable.
My first instinct was to export the JSON file which is unusable but contains my note entries amongst the hypertext.
The contingency was to share each note to Google’s workspace which is free and has the same searchable features as Simplenote.
The threat of an expensive subscription model means I choose to migrate my data and use Google workspace.
Simplenote doesn’t store photos and only text. This seems not to take up much server space.
If the owners were asking for donations like Wikipedia does then I would be happy to contribute.
The ability to publish a note live as a web page is unique to Simplenote.
I can envisage a couple of scenario where sharing information with a QR code is good for pamphleteering. And I am sad to leave this behind.
The message about the subscription model and reduced functions is enough to make me quit. I will wait to see where this goes but I will no longer be adding data to the notes in the app, and time is ticking to the point I delete my account and remove the app from all my devices.
I hope the Simplenote owners will look to a donation model instead.

Hi. Regarding transfer to another platform, the backup file from the web app is a zip file that contains each note as a text file, as well as the json file with the full content. So it is relatively easier to move these to another platform.

I too have used SimpleNote for years and LOVE it. $209 is a steep rise from FREE!
I would be happy to pay something, but as you say, I love it, but not $200 much!
Hoping theres a donation option or more realistic option too…

Hi! Please note that we have discontinued the Sustainer plan in its current form. We don’t have any plans for moving to a subscription model at the moment.
