Notes have Disappeared
-
I logged into Simplenote and found I had no notes, history, nothing. In addition, it had a server icon with a line through it. It said Simplenote hasn’t connected with the server for a while. This problem happens on the web version on multiple devices using both Firefox and Edge browsers.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi. It sounds like maybe you are unable to upload content to the Simplenote server. Are you behind a protective firewall, like a school, that might block uploading? If you have created notes in the Simplenote web app, it is possible that they were only stored in the browser cache, and never uploaded to the server. Clearing the cache could have deleted them.

This thread, https://forums.simplenote.com/forums/topic/all-my-notes-deleted/#post-3872, describes a very similar situation for another user.

I’m not behind any really restrictive firewall, and no changes have been made to it since I last was able to access my notes. I cleared the cache but that hasn’t solved the problem. I also created a test message and all I’m getting is a spinning wheel. However, I was able to access my notes on my Iphone by switching from local Wi-fi to my cell phone network. What changes on my firewall would need to be made to restore access? (IE what what ip, or ip range do I need to allow?

OK. I believe that clearing the cache would have deleted any note created in the web app. The spinning wheel indicates that uploading is not possible. It should just spin for a moment after each change to the note. Remember that the Simplenote web app is just javascript, so it can change at any time, and such a change may have triggered your problem.
From my testing, the Simplenote web app accesses the following urls:
• app.simplenote.com – 216.239.32.21 Google LLC, USA.
• simplenote.go-vip.co – 192.0.66.2 Automattic, USA
• api.simperium.com – 192.0.84.247 Automattic, USA
• simperium.comThose IPs may be out of date. You could recheck them with nslookup.
I suspect that you are already able to access them all, or you could not login. But your router is blocking uploads to the server at simperium.com. It might be related to the method the web app uses to send the data, possibly http not https, or something else. You need to investigate the security/privacy rules implemented by the router.
