Note without header
-
I need to take notes and quickly cut and paste them. Is there a way to create a note that doesn’t have a bolded header with a larger font?

I don’t think so. And that first line becomes the identifier for the document, although it doesn’t have to be unique. You may need to create docs named “001”, “002”, etc.

Hi @swampstomper!
Thanks for reaching out about this. At the moment, the note automatically sets up the first line of text as the header. If you wanted to skip this header formatting for easier copy/pasting, try to start your note on line 2. So give yourself an extra space at the top of the note which should leave the header formatting out.
Let me know if you have any questions about this. I’m happy to clarify further if necessary. :)

Thank you. It would be nice if the bolded header were an option. Speed is everything in my use case and even the time it takes to leave an extra space at the top is a sacrifice in efficiency.

Could you take your quick notes in one document (a scratchpad), then copy (or cut) blocks from it to paste into other notes? I do this to record “stuff” which I then move to its proper location. This is easy to do in the iOS app, since it has excellent selection capability.

@swampstomper I’m not sure it’s something we can prioritize doing at the moment, but I’ll add it as a feature request for you.
In the meantime, you might want to explore setting up a keyboard shortcut that does that jump for you.
Cheers!

I have the same request as @swampstomper, but have an additional question to add. It seems that on the Windows and Mac apps, the first line/paragraph does not get formatted as a header — ie, it is not bold nor in a larger font. But in the iOS app, the first line/paragraph does get bolded and displayed in a larger font.
So if I start a note in one of the desktop apps, and the first line is in fact an entire paragraph, then it perfectly looks fine in those apps, until I open it on iOS, at which point the entire first paragraph is bold and huge … so huge that it’s impossible to work on that note until I add a new first line (even if it’s a blank line, as @staff-therezzap suggested above).
Why does this inconsistency exist? It can’t be intentional, right? I much prefer the behavior of the desktop apps, and wish the iOS app could mimic that behavior. Why force users to have a bold first line? Why should the default behavior for a “simple note” app be to have that one bit of extra formatting?
I hope it’s clear that I’m not necessarily making a “feature request”, but rather pointing out an inconsistency between platforms, that to me is pretty glaring (I notice it whenever I switch platforms, which is often) … and I’m hoping you will bring the iOS app in line with the desktop apps, rather than vice versa!
Of course, adding a “first line bold” option would be fine too, though I recognize the danger of option bloat.
Thank you and please let me know if any questions!

I thought I would share some screenshots to prove I’m not crazy, and that indeed the iOS app bolds the first line whereas the Windows app does not. In these examples, where the first line is very short, it is not much of an issue. But in many of my notes, my first line is a full paragraph (this is just the way I use the app and take my notes!), and it does become an issue, as described above.
In preparing these screenshots, I notice another inconsistency between platforms. Look at how the notes are displayed in the note list. For the note titled “Title after blank line”, the display differs on Windows vs iOS. Not a big deal, but I assume you want to strive for consistency between platforms, so thought I should point this out.

Sorry for another reply, but my screenshots did not get uploaded, so I am trying again via imgur this time.

@dgbeecher thank you for those screenshots! I see just what you mean. Our Electron app, which is what is used in Windows and in the web app, isn’t formatting the heading of notes like it should. Normally all note titles should be in header formatting on all platforms. I’ve let the team know about this so we can make sure the app is consistent on all platforms moving forward.
