Note text duplication after the latest update on Android

Hi team,
I have been using Simplenote for over 2 years now and the primary reason I love Simplenote is the simple user interface and no problems in stability or synchronization. I have faced and moved away from note taking apps in the past only because they had stability or sync issues. My notes are very sacred to me and I do not want these to be lost or corrupted.
Only after the recent update I started facing issues wherein the text in my note was duplicated multiple times. I did wait for around 7 – 10 days before reporting this, since I did not want to put up a false alarm. This issue has been bugging me for a few days now, I don’t know the root cause of it. Maybe the total size of my notes has become too large now? I don’t know. Can someone help me with this? TIA.

- I have a very stable and pretty good internet connection

Hi. Something like this happened in August 2023, and it was identified as a server problem, which was fixed. I had one note where a paragraph was repeated 6 times! I suspect thi may be related to a “merging” error, where both the server and the mobile device believe they have new content, and so the data is merged. But, in fact the server has already been updated, and its “new” content came from the device.
You could try using the web app (app.simplenote.com) in a browser for a while, until someone can sort this out.

Yeah, it started happening recently for me, just after the new update and is happening quite frequently. That is why had to flag that.
TBH I was using the app in August 2023 as well but did not face any issues back then as such. I did see a whole lot of forum posts around that timestamp though.
But this is for sure some server issue or bug with the new update and needs dev attention.

@rachitsalhotra To help narrow down the issue, can you check the web app at app.simplenote.com? Are the note contents duplicated there for you too?
In addition, does the duplication affect only newly created notes? Does it only affect old ones? All of them?

Just to reiterate on what is happening:
- I open a note which has already been there.
- I add some new text to it.
- If I stay on the note for long enough, it kinda does a soft refresh and most of things that I wrote just now appear twice.
- Or, if I save and come back to the same note, some part of the text that I just wrote appears twice.
I think this answers all of your questions? Also, yes, the contents once duplicated are consistent on android or web app.

Thanks for providing additional details about the duplicate text issue.
Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to replicate this issue on my end using a Samsung Galaxy S23.
Can you try uninstalling and reinstalling the Simplenote app on your device?

It is happening very infrequently since the last 4-5 days. I’m not sure how to replicate it now.

While we haven’t been able to replicate the issue on our end, we’ll continue to monitor the app’s behavior for any potential causes.
If you encounter the issue again, please provide as much detail as possible, such as:
- A detailed description of the actions you take to trigger the issue
- A screen recording
