not saving anything/duplicating

    I’ve been using Simplenote for years now but this glitch of duplicating and erasing things I’ve written is 100% making me jump ship. I wrote things in my notes that I needed, thought they were safe, only to find out when I opened them this morning that they are now gone forever. This is unacceptable.

    I’m so upset over this. I’m trying to frantically remember what I had written to rewrite it. I’m exporting my notes and deleting this app.

    Is there ANY way I can recover what was lost?

    The Simplenote servers had some performance issues, but the situation has improved. This impacted sync, which is why characters are duplicated in the app. The team is still monitoring the services and working on preventing the same issue from happening again.

    I am having this same problem of my notes/data not auto-saving and getting lost. I have been a SimpleNote user for years but have been experiencing this issue for the last week. For example this morning I wrote my daily todo list but when I restarted my comp mid-day it was gone and doesn’t show up in the History. There is also notes from last week that are not updated. Please help. thanks

    Hi @ethannuss. Are you using the Simplenote app on your computer, or the web app in a browser?

    Do you use Simplenote on multiple devices, computers, etc.?

    If you’re using the Simplenote app, it relies on an internet connection to sync with the Simplenote server. Have there been any recent changes to your internet connection, firewall, etc.?

    I use both the desktop and app on my phone. I’m still having issues with syncing between them but also having notes previously taken on my desktop disappear. Nothing has changed with my internet. Its all in the same location.

  • Hi @ethannuss! There might be a temporary syncing issue causing this. Here are some steps that can often resolve it:

    1. Head over to https://app.simplenote.com/ and log in.
    2. Once logged in, take a look at your notes on the web app. Are they all present and displaying the correct content? Also, check if any notes appear there that might have vanished from your desktop app.
    3. If the notes on the web app seem correct, try logging out of Simplenote on all your devices (desktop and mobile) and then logging back in. This will force a fresh sync with the Simplenote servers, potentially resolving any discrepancies.

    Thanks, I just tried looking at the notes in the web sign in but it doesn’t have my old notes or the newest ones from the last 5 days. Please help as I can’t keep losing my notes like this. thanks.

  • Lost notes can usually be found either in the Trash or in the history of an existing note. To look in the Trash, open a web browser and go to https://app.simplenote.com. Then go to the hamburger menu at the top left and select “Trash”. It’s worth restoring some notes from the Trash so you can view their history. Pay particular attention to any blank notes you can see.

    To search the history, open a note, click the ellipsis (⋯) icon at the top, and select History… then move the slider.

    Thank you, but the old notes are not in the trash. It is still not saving new content added to notes yesterday or syncing with my other devices. I have tried logging out and back in on all my devices several times. When I do this it will sync everything initially but then it won’t continue to auto-sync. Please help.

    • What devices you use Simplenote on
    • Their operating systems and versions
    • The Simplenote versions on each
