My Malwarebytes app is blocking “simple-note.appspot.com”
-
Is this some legitimate part of Simplenote. Has anyone heard of it?
-
Hi. It’s not a part of Simplenote that I recognize. The hyphen in “simple-note” is bogus. From what I’ve seen, the iOS app uses public-api.wordpress.com. The web app is app.simplenote.com. The other references are to simperium.com, which is the cloud server.

But it looks like that url takes me to the Simplenote web app login. So it seems to be legit. Could you try app.simplenote.com?
-
Yes, app.simplenote.com takes me to my Simplenote app. I’ll try asking Malwarebytes to continue to block simple-note.appspot.com, but not tell me about it 10 times a day. Thank you!

Interestingly, both app.simplenote.com and simple-note.appspot.com resolve to (different) Google LLC IP addresses. So google may be somehow providing the web interface for the app. Later lookups by the web app do reference Automattic IPs, as you’d expect. appspot.com is apparently a google service platform. And I found this https://www.malwarebytes.com/blog/detections/appspot-com explanation from malwarebytes. Looks like users of appspot.com have some dicky neighbors.
