missing note

I lost my notes. My account is (email visible only to moderators and staff). The notes I wrote between 2:30 and 5:00 PM today disappeared. I used the iOS app, and my version is 4.55. Could you please help me recover them? I checked the trash, history, and the web, but the notes are gone. I logged into my account on another device before the issue occurred. Is it possible to recover them?

  • Hi @eksrhfdirrnr

First, here are a few things to try:

    1. Check the Trash. It’s worth restoring any notes in the Trash (even blank ones or ones with titles you don’t recognize) so you can view their history.
    2. Use the search field to look for specific words or phrases you remember writing in the note. Sometimes titles get changed accidentally, but the content may still be there inside another note.
    3. Open your notes and tap the clock icon to view the history, then move the slider through the revisions.

One important thing to know: the slider of the history may not show the records in chronological order because of how syncing works on Simplenote, so it is not obvious unless you know how it works.

For example, I can make a change on a note on Device A at 00:00 and the note doesn’t get synced to Simplenote servers probably due to an internet connection issue.

Then, I can make another change on the same note on Device B at around 00:30 and the note does get synced to the Simplenote servers.

When I access Device A with an active internet connection, the changes I made at 00:00 will be synced to the server and overwrite my changes that were made on Device B.

In this case, the slider will show the record of 00:00 being the latest change, followed by 00:30.

So please try going through the full history slider carefully — the revision you’re looking for may not be where you’d expect it to be.
