Mass Recovery of Deleted Notes
-
Hi there.
User error on my part. While trying to delete the contents of an entire note (cmd A + delete) I inadvertently deleted all of my notes.
Unfortunately there’s no way for me to multi-select deleted messages. I tried in the app and through my browser.
I’d like to recover them in bulk. Any way to do that? I have hundreds if not thousands of notes so going through them manually is not a workable solution.

I just double checked all our apps for you and must report we don’t have a multi-select tool for trashed entries on any of our platforms. At this time your only option to restore them would be to go one by one.
I know that’s less than ideal. I’ve let the team know adding a multi-select would be a huge improvement for cases like yours. I think it makes sense if we have multi-select in other areas to have it in the trash too.

this just happened to me and it’s a nightmare – I can’t believe there’s no way to fix this aside from manually restoring a about a thousand notes.
are they in the trash in order of deletion, or creation? if it’s by creation, that means I have to read every note and decide, too, which will take hours and hours

The order in the trash is by recently deleted, so the most recently deleted notes will be at the top. I hope that saves some headache for you even though we don’t have the multi-select tool you want there to bulk restore your notes.

You still haven’t provided this functionality. It’s not the first time I’ve deleted thousands of notes doing this. It’s because your app defaults to the list, instead of the note window, when changing focus back to the app. So fast keyboard users like myself click Command + A and Delete, thinking we’re deleting the contents of a note, but instead we delete all the notes in the list. 1) It’s absolutely unacceptable that you wouldn’t have a WARNING before deleting multiple notes, or even one note. And 2) It’s absolutely unacceptable that BASIC functionality like bulk restoring of notes has not been added yet. If you can bull-delete notes, you should be able to bulk-restore notes. Absolutely absurd that this hasn’t been fixed. Now I will waste an hour, or two, of my time manually restoring thousands of notes.

Is there a way to export my notes so that I can move them to another app like Apple Notes, or something else? I can’t risk deleting all my notes again, it’s a massive waste of time.

Hi. You can export your notes in the web app, app.simplenote.com. Tap the hamburger menu, Settings, Tools, and select Export. It downloads a zip file that includes a json file containing all the text, with tags and dates, and a folder with separate text files of each note. I use this to save a weekly backup of my notes. Export may also be available in the Simplenote app you use (it is not available in iOS).
Warning: Do not Import this file to a Simplenote account that already includes these notes. It will create a complete set of new (duplicate) notes. This is because the note title is just an attribute, like an email subject; it is not the document filename.

@adame021d0646ab I’ve sent your feedback along to our developers as a feature request. I can’t offer an estimated timeframe or confirm that it will be implemented, however.
As for exporting your notes, if it helps, you can also find our documentation on exporting notes here:
