MacOS 15 laggy / delays with cut-paste
-
Hi @staff-frank and others,
A quick update. The awful freeze-on-long notes problem appears to have abated after I moved to MacOS Sequoia 15.1.1 (issue first manifested on 15.0.1). Still on Simplenote 2.21.
The good news: it appears like the longer notes that were causing Simplenote to choke up are now snappy again.
I can only chalk it up to some interaction between Simplenote 2.21 and MacOS 15.0.1. So if you’re experiencing the same, hopefully moving to 15.1.1 will similarly help.

Hi, after upgrading to macOS 15.2 I tested again. I still have the painfully slow behaviour.
Pasting text causes 10+ sec delay.

I’m still experiencing the same issues. The note that I cannot open in Mac App Store version has 201 008 chars.

@joebotha198 @lmpogoda We’ll reach out to your email to investigate this case further. Thanks again for bringing this up.

I’m having the same issue. I just updated my 13-inch 2018 MacBook pro to macOS Sequoia 15.2 and the Simplenote app (version 2.21, from the App Store) became largely unusable. I can open the app, but when I try to load a note it hangs on the beachball for minutes to hours. The symptoms are worse with longer notes. For reference, a note with 100,836 characters (without spaces) takes roughly 10 minutes to load. I have used simplenote daily for years on my macbook and iphone, and until upgrading to Sequoia it’s been without issue.

Adding that this is happening to me as well. Extremely frustrating, as I rely on Simplenote daily. It’s just the Mac desktop version, but I prefer not to need to use the web app instead (which is working fine). Just recently updated to Sequoia 15.3 and using Simplenote 2.21 and it started with lagging whenever I pasted text, but now has escalated so that even clicking into longer notes will cause the spinning beachball and a lag of anywhere from 3-30 seconds depending on the note length.

@irinawang could you try downloading the Simplenote release that’s available through GitHub to see if the problem persists from there? There are a number of versions available, you’ll want to download either the .zip or .dmg release for macOS.
Please let us know how it goes!
