Lost notes from two notes
-
hello,
I love simplenote, but it scares me that I can lose notes that I have written, that they aren’t stored locally, until they sync, because I wrote some around 04:35/04:40PM on 10/02/2025 CEST, and these notes are very important to me, can someone tell me what could have happened, so that I can avoid it. And would it be possible to see when a note has synced on the mobile device?
-
@notharryweasley Can you please let us know on which device or platform you wrote those notes?
The way to ensure that a note synced is by checking it from the web app https://app.simplenote.com/. If you already wrote the initial note in one web app, you may want to open another browser, then log in on it and check if you can see your notes there.
As an alternative and precaution against data loss, you can also export your notes: https://simplenote.com/help/#export

Hello,
I was writing my notes on my phone, I was reading a book and took notes a few times in between and when I was done reading, I finished my notes and wrote some text in a different simplenote. The last part of my book notes, and the other simplenote weren’t saved for some reason, Idk if I could have possibly closed the app so fast, that it just didn’t manage to save it, but the book note was a little long, so it should’ve saved it as I wrote it, as it had saved it up until that last part.
I checked the history and the time of writing the notes, it didn’t exist in either of the two notes. I checked on other devices with no luck.
On a good note, it hasn’t happened since. -
@notharryweasley Just to be thorough, aside from checking note history, please also check Trash, in case there is a duplicate of the note that is more complete. Note history is retained even for notes in Trash, so please check those too.

@notharryweasley Since you haven’t found the missing notes in the Trash, please try checking in the Simplenote web app at https://app.simplenote.com. You can try the following:
- In the web app, sort your notes by the “last modified” date. You can usually find this option in the app’s settings. This will help you find notes created around the time you were writing, even if the titles are different.
- From within the web app, restore all notes currently in the Trash. Even if they seem irrelevant, restore them so you can view their history. Sometimes notes can be accidentally moved to the Trash.
- Open each restored note (and any notes that look suspicious) and click the clock icon at the top to view its history. Move the slider through the history to see if the missing content is present in an earlier version. Pay close attention to blank notes or notes with titles you don’t recognize.
- Don’t just search by title. Use the web app’s search field to look for specific words or phrases that you remember writing in the missing notes. Sometimes titles get changed accidentally, but the content might still be there.

Hello,
I have looked in every possible way, the text within the two notes cannot be found anywhere, not in history, not in the trash or in any of my other notes. I simply don’t know what happened to them, but there gone.
-
@notharryweasley We’ve already explored every possible option, and it seems we’ve reached the end of the line. I wish I could deliver better news, but it appears we’ve exhausted all possibilities.
I understand this isn’t the outcome you were hoping for. We hope that you won’t face this issue again in the future. However, if it does crop up, please don’t hesitate to inform us so we can investigate further.

Hello,
Thank you for the help. Luckily it wasn’t something that took ages to rewrite, but as I have mentioned in another thread, a way to see that it has synced up on the phone, like it has, when you press the info button on a note on the computer, but I will probably just double check my iPad after every note, to be 100% sure:)
-
We understand your suggestion about having a sync indicator on the phone, and we appreciate the feedback. We’ll keep it in mind for future updates.
Since it sounds like you’re all set, I’ll mark this resolved, but if you have any further questions or issues, feel free to reopen this thread.
