Is there any record kept of “deleted date”?
-
In one keystroke I deleted 1000 extant notes.
My trash has 2000 notes in it.
I am terrified I’ll have to go through the backup files and read 3000 notes and decide which ones I had already deleted and which were deleted by accident.
The backup contains a notes.json file with “last modified” dates.
PLEASE tell me deletion counts as a modification. I would easily be able to run these files through a script and revert to the way things were today just before the delete.
Failing that, do you guys have ANY way of restoring my notes to the state they were in earlier today?
This is going to be an absolute nightmare otherwise. I have notes in there going back 8 years. It could take me weeks to get back to where I was.

I’m glad you reached out:

You can restore your notes from your trash without needing to go through your back up files:

While there isn’t a way to bulk restore your notes from here your recently deleted notes will be listed in the order you deleted them, making it a bit easier to tell what was removed during the accidental bulk deletion.

Hi there – thanks for the reply.

Hi there. I was really excited to hear this, but I tested it myself and it’s not true.
On my computer (Mac), notes are displayed in the trash in order of date modified, so if a 2 year old note is deleted today, it shows up in the trash beneath all newer notes.
Please let me know if I’m missing anything, because this is exactly what I want.
I have a computer that has not updated its simplenote database yet — I cut it off from the internet and am hoping there’s a way to save the database of 650 extant notes from the program files – either package contents or some supporting application file.
Please tell me if that’s possible.

EDIT: For anyone who is in the same situation—managing to isolate a single device in a pre-sync state, the data is stored at:
[user]/Library/Containers/Simplenote/Data/Library/Simplenote/Simplenote.storedataI would deeply request “deleted date” be added to sort data in the trash, sort by created/modified/deleted.
I’m going to try to figure out how to parse this file into a list of notes to recover from my backups.
