iPhone / Website Links

If I try to click on a website address in a Simplenote note on my iPhone it becomes unclickable.

When I open the note the website address appears as hypertext, though when I click it changes to normal text, so I have to copy and paste to get to the website.

    Any ideas ?

Hi. I believe this used to work, because I would have trouble trying to select a link to copy and opening the site instead. It may be a change with iOS 17.4 or 17.4.1. I think Simplenote would open these links in its own mini browser (not Safari), and that may be broken in the latest iOS.

Aha! After an extensive testing program.. You need to long press on the link to follow it. I knew it used to work, and it still does.

Thanks……Got that to work if the web address is a hyperlink, but my testing unearthed another problem. When I paste a web address into Simplenote it does not always land as hypertext.

The long press only works with hypertext.

How do you get Simplenote to default to hypertext when pasting in a web address ? Perhaps is something you do from the IOS side not Simplenote.

if you select the Normal text web address you get an option in the pop up to “Open Link” but that is a bit long winded !

When I past a web address into Apple Notes is always appears as Hypertext, so it seems it’s a Simplenote issue

I also tried pasting in a Simplenote Internal Link. This also ends up as normal text not hypertext

if I exit Simplenote, then enter, the Internal Link is hypertext though the moment I tap anywhere else on the note it changes to normal text.

Perhaps you’re more familiar with building websites, etc., but I’m not sure what you mean by a “hyperlink”, “hypertext”, and normal text web link.

I have a note with some links beginning with http//, and others that are just the site name, like http://www.tonehunt.org. They are all highlighted (hypertext?), and they all work to open the page in the local browser. I typed in a random string (“nascar.com”), it was highlighted, and worked.

Could you share a web address that does not land as hypertext in Simplenote?

    So in recap:

When I manually write or paste a URL sometimes it is hypertext sometimes normal text.

This applies to websites and internal links.

When I launch Simplenote the links appear as Hypertext though if you click anywhere else on the note the Hypertext becomes normal text.

Yes. That’s the way it works. When you position the cursor, it opens the keyboard and the highlighting disappears (I suppose the text window enters edit mode). When you lower the KB (down arrow, lower right), the highlighting reappears, and you can long press on the link to open it. I copied your macrumors link into Simplenote and it worked fine – long press to open, tap to edit.

Wow, that’s great. Get rid of the keyboard and hypertext returns.

    Thanks for your help
