[iOS] Don’t force notes to have a title.
-
When I create a new note and start writing, I usually have no idea what to title it. I only come up with a title after I’ve finished writing or at least when I’m halfway through.
Currently, the Simplenote app automatically uses the first line of the note as the title, displaying it in a larger font than the body text.
As a result, every time I start a new note, I have to hit Enter twice to create blank lines before I can start writing. Otherwise, everything I type would just become part of the title, which is a really frustrating experience.
I’d like to see an optional feature that allows users to create a new note without being forced to add a title. Instead, users could add a title later using a different method if needed.
I also have another suggestion: don’t make the title font larger than the body text. Of course, this could also be an optional setting, so it wouldn’t force all users to follow my preference.

Hi. Remember, the note title (i.e. first line) is displayed as the note name in the note lists. Creating multiple notes with blank titles could be confusing. You can create a dummy title, maybe date/time, when starting, then change it later. Or just let Simplenote use the first line as a temporary title, then insert a new title later.

@johnswift37 The problem is, once I set a temporary title in Simplenote, it messes up my train of thought. After setting the temporary title, I forget the details I was planning to write about.
I’d like to be able to just start writing when I open Simplenote and create a new note, without having to come up with a title or temporary title first.
Another idea I have is to add an optional setting in Simplenote that automatically sets the current time as the note title.

Hmm. My “notes” are all fairly long documents on particular topics I’m interested in. So I will add to a specific note that already exists. And the most used ones are pinned at the top of the “Current” tag list that I always go to when opening the app. If I want to record a random fragment of info, I add it to a specific note used for that purpose. Later, I will try to move some of that to more appropriate locations. So, that’s my solution for truly random fragments; add them to one composite document. And I always add to the top, so no time wasted scrolling. This works with the existing Simplenote, across all platforms, and doesn’t require changes that are bound to be piecemeal if they are ever made.

@nianbroken We’ve logged your request to allow users to create a new note without needing to add a title. We appreciate your suggestion!
In the meantime, you can consider the workaround @johnswift37 has offered. Thanks!
