In bullet point lists every word becomes Capitalized with Swype keyboard
-
On iOS 18 (but also all older versions) Simplenote app Capitalizes each word typed with the Swype keyboard, but only when you type in bullet point lines (starting with
-or[ ]checkmarks)Regular text works fine, only the first word in a sentence gets capitalized. Although if you tap on another non-all-cap line and tap back on the current line, this bug stops and you can type as usual
No other app behaves like this

Hi. This is a long-standing problem with auto-capitalization and 3rd-party keyboards on iOS Simplenote. If you use the Apple keyboard, it works fine. I went through this years ago, with no result. We just have to live with it.

Apple keyboard is unfortunately not good :(
But then why doesn’t this affect other apps with the same 3rd-party keyboards? What are they doing differently?

I have no idea what the problem is with Simplenote and Auto-Capitalization with 3rd-party keyboards. Or why there is no problem with other apps. I first saw this when using the PadKeys keyboard, and reported it to them. They told me Simplenote was telling them to “capitalize all words”, like a title. I pointed this out to Simplenote, and their reply was that it works with the Apple keyboard, so it’s not a problem. This was 7 years ago, and it’s still not a problem…
My current keyboard (Typefinity) has cursor left/right arrows. If I do a quick left/right shift when it’s about to capitalize, that cancels the capitalization for the rest of the bullet item. Maybe you can find a similar minimal effort work-around.
