I’m hoping you can add a folder feature.

Simplenote currently doesn’t have a folder feature, and all notes are displayed at the same level. When I have a lot of notes, it becomes difficult to manage them effectively, and it’s also hard to find the specific note I need. Even though Simplenote has a tagging feature, it still can’t replace the functionality of folders.
Furthermore, because there’s no folder feature, all notes show up directly on the homepage when you open the app. For notes that I don’t want others around to see, this is quite awkward. If there were a folder feature, then for notes that I don’t want others to see, I could put them into folders. That way, as long as I don’t open a specific folder, people around wouldn’t be able to see the notes inside.

@nianbroken Thanks for the suggestions!
As you’re already aware, Simplenote uses tags to organize notes, and folder is not a supported feature now. That said, we’re happy to add your vote for this feature request. Thanks again!

The organise by folder feature is essential. I’m new to simplenote. It is one of the best apps available. The folder feature would just make this app powerful.

Hi @mavusobathandwa365. Try using the tags. They give you like a single layer of folders that you can select from the sidebar. But the advantage is that a note can have multiple tags, so it appears in different lists. My content is “organized” by categories like Music, Personal, etc., but items I’m actively updating are also tagged Current, which is essentially my home screen in Simplenote.

Left the app years ago after using it for years and hoping something will be done eventually but it wasn’t.
Because of not even any basic note org (folders would be idea; and no “tags” are very different than folders), missing notes that kept missing, search being off and often resulting in crash, and slowly degrading sync.
Came back to check after years (because the simple look and feel is pretty much unique of Simplenote as the name suggests) but it seems the app is still there where I had left it. Still losing user notes, still search issues, still have essentially no way to organise (and Simplenote staff still doing “we will add a vote on your behalf” :P), and sync is still janky. Well, maybe I will try it again in a few years.

@mavusobathandwa365 thank you for sharing your thoughts on a folders feature. I’ll forward your comment along to our developers on the feature request.

@mikerockwell Hey, it would ne great to tell us where is this feature in the grand order of features. You have been commenting “votes” while users see nothing what actually happens after that.
I mean I really hope you folks at Automattic realise that “tags” are not replacement for “folders”. They don’t even come close in functionality.

Thank you for your feedback! We’ve made a note of it.
Currently, we don’t have plans to add folders in the near future. However, we’re actively collecting “votes” to gauge interest in this feature. So, we really appreciate all of your feedback and requests.

Add my vote and probably 90% of your user base. I was looking for a new note app and decided to try yours, but not having access to folders might be a deal breaker.

Add my vote as well. At very least, I’d like to have public and private files in different folders, but being able to make additional custom folders would be very helpful. I use tags, and tags are great, but we need folders too.
