How can I access exported notes?

What format are notes exported in? How can I access them once they’re exported?

After being locked out of my account for a bit (I’m still locked out on the web.), I feel some security that I can export my notes. But it won’t do me any good if I can’t access them somehow.

    Please help!

    Thanks!

When you Export Notes you are able to indicate in which folder you would like them saved. For me, I select the Download folder. The files are saved in .txt format and are readable using any Word Processor. I regularly export my notes as well to make sure I have a backup. Also use Dropbox to make sure I have an online backup just in case something happens to my desktop. Cheers.

I exported notes from the web version back in December and got a zip file. I can’t access the web version now (since I changed my email adfress on my account!). I’ve gotten no joy from Simplenote helping on that issue, so I downloaded the desktop version & the export file has no extension! I have Apple devices & there is no export capabbility from them!

LOVE this app. HATE how little support there is.

    :(

Try changing the exported file extension to zip, and try to unzip it. The zip file from the web app contains each note as an individual txt file, and a single json file containing all the notes with tags and other data. The desktop file might be similar.

I would not recommend using the text files in the zip unless you know for sure you do not have duplicate titles. I recommend the json file instead. I have some tools that can help but they are not easy/friendly see https://forums.simplenote.com/forums/topic/reconciling-multiple-change-conflicts-from-different-backup-files/
