Folders for notes
-
Hello!
I would love a feature that added folders, so that I could organise my notes with greater ease. Is there a way to get this feature or do I have to wait for an update?

Hi @notharryweasley 👋
Simplenote uses tags to organize notes, and folder is not a supported feature now. That said, I added a vote to an existing feature request on your behalf.
We cannot guarantee if or when we may add something like this but rest assured it’s on our radar now.

Tags are actually “better” than folders, because the same note can have multiple tags. For instance, I have tags for various activities, and a “Current” tag for items I’m working on. So I can view documents by their specific category, or just scroll through Current. Further, I “pin” the really active stuff, so it appears at the top of Current.

The other idea similar to folders would be nested tags, i.e. ability to nest tags one in another. I think this would connect both worlds.

Thank you both @johnswift37 and @piotrekkucharski for chiming in!
I noted the tag usage and the nested tags idea.

I this this is quite an old thread, but I have one feature request that would vote for the folder feature: export notes in a folder structure. This is very useful as a backup, when changing apps, or to be independent from an app, simply to have everything structured as text files. A folder feature would solve the problem. But another idea would be to use the tags, though the multiplicity of tags would require some extra thoughts, where easiest would probably be to name the folders with all tags from a note, not just one tag.
