Eratic Syncing

    In the last 72 hours I have noticed that the sync has been erratic on multiple occasions. Sometimes a note has restored to a historical version (of some minutes before). Using on MacBook, iPhone and iPad.

    As an example I added a line of text to a note this morning and it erased within 20 mins and was replaced by the older version.

    Hmmm. That’s odd. Are you using the native Simplenote app on each of those platforms, or are you using the web app on some of them? This is significant because each copy of the app stores a local copy of the database, while the web app accesses the cloud database directly.

    OK. I’m not sure how sync works, but do any of your devices have inconsistent time settings? Incorrect time zone, or just incorrect time?

    All clocks on all devices are operating as normal

    Unfortunately, the situation has continued. Similar to what was reported here in a long thread, last Summer, which made me switch to Apple Notes for 3 months.

    I can edit a note on one device then it seems the server overwrites with a previous version, so I lose the edit. This does not happen all the time though in last week multiple times a day.

    I remember the server problem last year, but that’s not the case now.

    I had a problem when I initialized my new iPad with the backup from the old one. I had to delete the Simplenote app and its data from the new device and reinstall it. You might try that on the most problematic device. Check first with the web app at app.simplenote.com, to be sure all your notes are updated on the server.

    I think I will delete apps on all devices and reinstall…….After doing a backup !

    Deleted Simplenote on all 4 devices, 2 MacBooks, iPad, iPhone. Restarted all devices. Reinstalled Simplenote on all.

    Let’s see how it performs now.

    Deleting apps and rebooting all devices, then reinstalling Simplenote seems to have resolved the issue. I am closely monitoring and being careful with any important newly added text, for a while longer.

    I’m having this problem currently between my iPhone 11, iPhone SE and MscBook Pro when using the native App. It is showing current on the iPhone 11 where I last updated my notes but not updated on my MacBook Pro or iPhone SE nor from Browser. I’ve rebooted my Iphone SE but still not showing correctly. My concern is if I start updating on another device it will overwrite any work completed previously.

    Any suggestions?

    If you’re not seeing your updates in the browser app, then your iPhone 11 has not synced with the server. The browser app views the database directly, not a local copy. You need to get your iPhone 11 to sync. Maybe connect to WiFi and open the Simplenote app.
