Email change and backup query

I need to create a backup of all my notes. However I can’t see a way to do that in the iOS version. I understand it is possible from the web app but the problem is my username is an old email address that is no longer in use. So I can’t access my account that way. Same for the Android version.

So I need to change my username to my existing email address. I can’t find a way to contact the developers except through this forum so can anyone help with this? Thanks.

I hope the developers will read this post soon and reply to me as I need to import my notes from my old iPad to my new one but the notes on the old one are under a different email address which is no longer in use. I would really appreciate some help with this.

Hi. First, you can login to the web version without receiving an email. Just tap the “login manually” option. I assume you do know the old email and password.

Second, you don’t need to “import” the notes to the new iPad. Just install the app on the new device. Delete the app and its data, then reinstall it, if it was automatically installed during the device setup (this is important!). Open the app and login to Simplenote. Your synced notes will be loaded from the server. I’ve just done this for the second time in eleven years; it is that easy.

Third, you should get one of the hosts here (not actually developers) to change your email.

Hi and thanks for your response. Ok I’ll try to log in again but unfortunately I don’t remember the original password. Same goes for getting in to the app on the new ipad.

I’ll also try to send a message to a host to change my email.

No I still can’t log in online. I actually do have the account details but when I try to log in manually it says my password needs to be reset and when I try to do that, it says it will send an email. Since I can no longer access that email account, I’m back to square one.

Also I can’t find any way to contact a host re. changing my email address. The ‘Contact us’ option simply re-directs me to this forum.

So now I’m now going to try what you suggested with the app. Maybe I’ll have more luck there.

Nope, just another brick wall. I deleted the app from my ipad and then re-installed it. I chose ‘log in manually’, entered my details and then it told me that I must verify my email before being able to log in.

So the only way I can see to regain access is to have my email changed. Can you, or anyone else, please tell me how I can contact a host to do that? This is all way more complicated than it needs to be! I’m no idiot and have been using computers etc. for decades but this process is really frustrating. Plus not being able to contact whoever ‘runs’ Simplenote ..

You are doing the right (only) thing to contact a host. Just need to be patient, and someone will help you.

Ok thank you. I was looking for some way to message a host/admin but there doesn’t seem to be any. So yes, I’ll just wait and see.

  • @markduberry Are you still signed in to your Simplenote account on any devices, by any chance?

If not, is it still possible to temporarily reinstate your old email address?

Alternatively, do you still remember your password, but just need your account to be verified in order to access it?

Depending on your answer, we might still be able to help you regain your access. If so, we’ll then reach out to you on your email.

Hi @staff-fred and many thanks for your reply.

Yes I am still signed in on my old iPad where I can access my notes. The situation is that I have a new iPad which I want to set up with Simplenote and then I want to erase the old one in order to sell it. The problem is the old version is under the old email account which I have no access to anymore and cannot reinstate, even temporarily.

I think the second scenario is the case because when I try to sign into the web version, or on my new iPad, it sends a code to the old email address so I can’t get past that. I have record of the password so hopefully that should work. So I think all I need is to change the email on the account to my current Gmail one so that I can go through the login steps.

Just to re-iterate that I need a member of staff to change the email address if possible because I cannot access the account in order to do so myself. I can post or send any details that you need for this. Thanks.

We do offer the option to login using the email address and password on the account. You can find that login page here:

    https://app.simplenote.com/login-with-password/

You can also click the “login manually” link in the web app’s login form to access that.

Once you login using your email address and password, you can change the email address on the account by visiting the Settings page. At the top, you’ll see your address along with a “change” link. Click that link and you’ll be able to enter your new address.

Thanks for your reply Mike however I have already tried that. If I try to login manually, a message comes up immediately saying that my password is insecure and must be reset. Once I click on the link to reset it, it says that a reset link will be sent to my email address, which of course I can’t access so I’m back to square one. It’s the same problem if I try to login by email without clicking on ‘log in manually’: it says it will email me a code to login!

So someone there will have to help me to get past these ‘roadblocks’ so that I can get into my account to change the email address.
