Desktop widget in macOS does not sync with iPhone (country-related)
-
Hello everyone,
I’ve installed Simplenote both on macOS Sequoia (15.5) and iPhone (iOS 18.5). Added desktop widgets on both devices.
The actual app syncs nicely. The iOS homescreen widget syncs nicely. But the macOS desktop widget cannot sync, giving me the following message:
‘Unable to Connect to iPhone – iPhone Mirroring is not available in your country or region.’
Is there a workaround for this? The country is Greece.
Thank you.

Hi. Actual syncing of your documents is handled by a cloud server provided by Simplenote. This ensures that changes made to documents on one device are immediately accessible on the other, provided that they have internet connection.
I guess you may be referring to syncing the state of the apps on your different devices, so the current document, etc., are the same on both devices. Is this what you mean?

In fact, I’m not referring to the app – the app is behaving perfectly. My problem is with the app’s desktop widget on macOS Sequoia (15.5). The widget cannot fetch the data from the app. Have a look at the screenshot.
Thank you for your time. It is rather important in terms of usability (for me, at least) to have the widget permanently on the desktop.

And a few minutes later – after, presumably, trying in vain to connect to the app:

Right. iPhone Mirroring is a MacOS/iOS feature, as described here, https://support.apple.com/en-us/120421. It is not a feature of Simplenote. It seems like the desktop widget you have installed on your Mac attempts to remotely access the iPhone app, not the Simplenote app already installed on your Mac. Perhaps you should try deleting and re-creating the desktop widget.

Right, makes sense. Any idea which widget might be accessing Simplenote’s servers?
Thank you.

Sorry. I know a fair amount about iOS and Simplenote, but nothing about MacOS or its widgets. It should be obvious when you create the widget; iPhone Mirroring is essentially a second-level capability, which you do not want to use..
