Data privacy concerns with Automattic
-
In the wake of Tumblr/WordPress’s deal to sell user content to Midjourney and OpenAI, I’m concerned about what that could mean in either the present or the future about Simplenote data.
- Automattic’s Privacy Policy can be described as vague at best.
- Automattic accidentally handed over content that was meant to be private (see the first four bullet points in the linked article).
- This AI deal happened with no advance notice to users, scraping content as far back as 2014 with no way to opt out until after the data was handed over.
What assurances do we have that the same thing hasn’t and won’t happen with Simplenote?

Simplenote does not have any partnerships with AI companies. Your personal information is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy. If you’d like clarification on any specifics in the Privacy Policy you find vague, I recommend reaching out to the team which manages it through the web form or via email.
