Cutting and carriage return issues. Lines dissappearing on MacOS desktop version
-
I’m getting very strange behaviour when hitting the carriage return at the end of a line or attempting to cut text. For instance, if I have two lines of text and go to the end of the first line and hit carriage return, the cursor moves to the next line, as expected, but the second line just disappears. As soon as I hit a key though the second line appears under the new line, as it should be. Now, if I type some text into the new line and now have three lines of text and I backspace until I delete all of the second line until the cursor is back to the end of the first line, the third line doesn’t move up and there remains and extra, empty line between the 1st and 3rd line. Again, once I hit a key everything goes back to the way it should and I only see two lines of text again. The same sort of thing happens when I try to cut text. This makes it very difficult to use SimpleNote and I’ve never had this problem before.
Please advise.

A couple of questions. Are you using the Simplenote app form the AppStore, or the web app in a browser? What is your MacOS version?
-
Thanks for the quick response.
Yes, I’m using the Simplenote (version 2.21) app from the AppStore.
My MacOS is Sequoia version 15.6.1 running on a MacBook Pro 16-inch, 2021.
The app runs as expected in the browser.

I am experiencing what is the same (or related) pesky problem with Simplenote for Mac: I open an existing note, hit carriage return at the end of an existing line to add new text, and the existing line seemingly disappears.
Workaround: complete typing, click on another note, then click back into the note you were editing—the missing line re-appears.
So no data lost, but detracts from the normally delightful experience.

Hate to suggest it, but you could update to 15.7, and hope for the best… I’m not a Mac user, so just guessing.

I went ahead an updated to Tahoe 26.0 and the problem has gone away. Not sure how that fixed it but just happy it’s back to normal.
-
Bad news, it had looked like the issue was gone after updating to Tahoe but it has been creeping back in. Sometimes it’s a delay before the text positioning updates and other times it’s right back to how it used to be when I first described the issue. So, in the end, this issue remains outstanding. If you would like a screen recording of what this issue looks like, just let me know.

@dimensionalgoose Thanks for the update.
I’ve tried to replicate the issue on my end, but it seems I might be using different settings or methods. If it’s not too much trouble, could you try recreating the problem and send us a screen recording? That would be very helpful.
I also have a couple of extra questions for you. Is this issue cropping up with your existing notes, new ones, or both? And when it comes to the note that’s causing problems, are you using Markdown, or does it seem to happen regardless of whether you use Markdown or not?
-
I tried replying to your inquiry, including a link to a screen recording. I suspect there may be a block to posts with links. How should I proceed?

Hi @dimensionalgoose – We were able to view the video you shared, thanks!
Have you changed the text size in the app at all? We had a report of a similar sounding issue, which was resolved by resetting the text size to default.
-
Thanks, that fixed it 👍. I had made my text two steps smaller.
If you could, please let me know when this issue is fixed as I do prefer the smaller font. In the meantime, I’m glad I’m able to properly use my notes now.
Thanks again.

@dimensionalgoose Thanks for confirming. Your report has been added to the Github issue. That’s the best place to follow along for updates when the issue is fixed.
