Ctrl-V not working

For anyone using the ‘block “Override keyboard shortcuts”’ workaround, please note that it also caused it own set of problems. Decided to undo the change to the setting because it broke undo (Ctrl-Z). Looks like it also breaks Select All (Ctrl-A).
I decided to just live with the Shift-Ctrl-V workaround for pasting until Automattic fixes Cltr-V (I’ll admit – I never remember to use Shift-Ctrl-V until Ctrl-V fails to do anything, then I remember…)

Thanks everyone for continuing to share your experiences and workarounds here. 🙏
As my colleague mentioned previously, we’ve added this to our GitHub issue. From what we’ve seen so far, this looks related to recent changes on Mozilla’s end, but we’re keeping an eye on it and will provide updates as soon as we know more.
In the meantime, we really appreciate the community sharing temporary workarounds, like using Shift + Ctrl + V for pasting.

Found it and Fixed….
When you do Ctrl +V there is a permission check for Clipboard action on the Right side URL text box.. Just select Grant permissions for app.simplenote to see clipboard and it all works.. -

Hi @perfectword7,
Thanks for giving that a try and for letting us know Ctrl + V is still not working for you in Firefox 142. We’ve seen that this behavior seems tied to recent changes on Mozilla’s side.
In the meantime, the Shift + Ctrl + V workaround should still function while we investigate further. If we learn more or have an update from Mozilla’s end, we’ll share it here.
-
Just ran into this as well. Ctrl+V still not working in Firefox 143 on Windows. Also worth noting the paste option does not appear in the app’s right-click menu. Truly bizarre as every other website I use has no issue with paste.

It’s been a thrilling several weeks.
For what it’s worth, as I suggested above I am several weeks into using a different notes service instead of simplenote. I found Standard notes to have been the closest match to the way simplenote works and you can set it up with just the notes on the left and get it to look and work very similarly, so I am glad I found that.
-
try ctrl+v while the rmb menu is visible. This seems to circumvent whatever is preventing normal operation
-
Hi, I also had the same problem with Firefox and Chrome. I googled “simplenote” and first match was a download link from the Microsoft Store. I downloaded it to my Windows 11 PC, it installed immediately and after logging in with my data I have my beloved Simplenote as an app, accepting every Paste command I give it. Very happy with the result.

Are we really 3 months without something as fundamental as paste not working in a note taking app?
Can anyone confirm this actually being worked on?
-
I suspect that most people affected by this would have migrated to a different service by now which may explain the relative quietness of this thread lately
-
Speaking for myself, I’m still on Simplenote but have just trained myself to use Ctrl-shift-v.
-
I’ve also continued using it with the workaround, or if I will be doing a lot of pasting, I just use the desktop app. The reality is that Firefox is not even 7% of the global browser market, so there’s not much motivation for the developers to fix this in a timely fashion.
-
Even if it’s 7% of the base it’s still a major browser and this app has a very (intentionally) limited feature set.
What could possibly be prioritized over such fundamental functionality for 3 months. It seems like it just isn’t under development anymore, in which case I’ll personally be moving on.

Hi all,
Thank you for your continued attention and patience for this issue. We have added another reference to the reports in this thread to the GitHub issue.
In the meantime, thank you for sharing temporary workarounds, and we encourage using the ones such as using Shift + Ctrl + V for pasting.
