Collaboration Not Syncing

    I discovered today that my notes were not syncing between collaborators. Thinking that it might be a network issue, I tested both my devices/accounts and found that they were both syncing with the web versions perfectly, but not with each other. I reinstalled the simplenote app on both devices, but it didn’t solve anything.

    I tried using only a single device and opening two different browsers, logging into a different simplenote account with each one. I then tried collaborating between the accounts. The collaborated notes don’t show up at all, even when I’m using the same device, and I’m using only web versions of simplenote.

    Both accounts sync fine between any apps and the online pages. They just can’t collaborate with each other.

    I know that collaboration was working as recently as Friday.

    Same here. Two individual accounts sync fine within each account (apps and web), but collaborating between accounts no longer works. Creating a new page and collaborating does not sync between both accounts. Logging out and in did not help.

    My last successful collaboration sync occurred on Saturday.

    Hey we are also experiencing issues with Simplenotes syncing over the past few days – please let us know what we can do as it has been creating scheduling issues for us.

    Does anyone know if this is still known an issue? My wife and I share some notes together and none of them are syncing.

    FYI – over the past week, there have been VERY intermittent “syncs” where notes between my wife and I are updated (maybe 2 or 3 occurrences all week?). Unfortunately, the syncing within the app is totally undependable for the past 9 days. Still no word from Simplenote if there will be any repairs for this issue.

    Anyone have suggestions for a more dependable replacement for notes synced between husband and wife?

    Myself and wife are finding the same issue, it feels like the issue has occurred somewhere between 7-9 days ago, and this feature seems broken despite lengthy local troubleshooting from two pretty technically minded people. It feels like a host issue. We’ve had a couple of synchs during this time, that have caused synch conflicts due to being multiple days delayed or behind. Simplenotes issued an Apple update today 4thNov. However no mention of this as a big fix. The shared experience here with so much in common, would suggest this is a global host issue. Would love a mod to confirm the fault, and suggest an estimated ETA for solution. Like others, we are waiting – but will likely be forced to change to a competing app. “Freeform” app achieves similar and looks pretty good

    No, I’ve tested this morning (after your reply) and it’s still an issue. Are You able to replicate this issue on your side? As I suspect it’s a global fault right now, and likely to be testable on any device.

    @staff-pikachu , when you mention “it had some hiccups, but should be working again” that sounds like you might have known what the root cause and ‘suspected’ solution had been. Are you able to advise what this is? “Hiccups” was a bit vague. It’s be useful for troubleshooting if you can say what the cause and attempted fix has been, more specifically. I have a technical background, so I should be able to follow the narrative, if you can elaborate here for me/us.

    It was an issue with memory usage on the server which has been resolved. We have tested it and see it syncing shared notes. Can you please try making a change on a shared note to see if that gets it syncing again? Or, maybe try removing the collaborator and adding them back again which may help as well.

    Thanks for the info. Yes, seems resolved, thank you! It didn’t sync naturally. I had to remove the collaborator and re-add them to each note. Then when added back in again it cloned duplicates. It was a bit of a fuss to work out which was duplicate, remove and re-add collaborator. We share 20+ notes for various things. But…. we got there in the end. You’re correct, with a bit of effort to recognise the change locally, it does appear resolved. We just needed to tidy up all the synch conflicts. Grateful for the fix @staff-pikachu – thanks!

    We’ve recently made some fixes to our system.

    The issue you were experiencing should now be resolved. Please try syncing your notes again. If you continue to encounter any problems with publishing and collaboration, please provide more details.

    Hi guys, strangely enough 1 year later at exactly the same time of year, I am experiencing this same synch issue again, with the same symptoms.

    Last time, it was an issue with memory usage on the server needed to be resolved by the app owner. What’s the odds this same thing has occurred again? Is it being the same time of year as last time, a coincidence or relative to something internal at this time of year?

    Once the SimpleNote team resolved the server memory error, I had to remove my collaborator from every note and re-add them again. Although this did cause lots of note duplications and synch conflicts, which took a long time for us to clean up.

    Are you able to advise if there is a known issue with note synching between collaborators, due to internal (Simplenote owner) server memory error/issues? As I’ve tried everything locally (logouts, refreshes, apps updated etc.)

  • Thanks for the detailed report. We’ll pass this along to our team so they can check whether anything is happening on the server side that could be affecting sync, especially with shared notes.
