can’t sync changes from PC, just spinning arrows
-
Hi SimpleNote –
I noticed today that changes I’ve typed into my notes on my PC are not replicating to my mobile device (Android app). On my PC (web interface, Chrome on Linux) I’m seeing spinning arrows on the notes that I’ve changed on the PC, clearly indicating that it’s trying to sync to the cloud but failing.
With some pain, I did a complete reboot of the machine, but it didn’t improve. Also generally everything is up to date. I’ve already tried logging out and back in. (By the way, I hate your new web login method, can explain why :) )
I did see a comment in a similar thread here last week asking the user to “see if you can access simperium.com”, which apparently is the cloud service that stores our notes. I CAN get to that website, so that’s not the problem.
Do you guys have an offsite status page or Twitter/X account? That’s the first thing I looked for after encountering this problem, thinking that perhaps you all were suffering a cloud outage, but I didn’t find anything. If you do, add that to your FAQ please. If you don’t, you should, and ideally it wouldn’t be hosted at *.simplenote.com anywhere.
Thanks for any suggestions re the failing sync. I need to get back to work :)

Update: I made another change on the PC side, to another note, and the sync immediately went through. So I tried a trivial change to the notes that had been stuck all day (were actually STILL stuck, with spinning arrows) and they immediately went through as well.
Well, that’s good! But you’ve got some kind of retry bug there.

@ccampbell9943b38d6e Thanks for the update. That’s really helpful! It does sound like there might’ve been a stuck sync state that cleared once a new change was made. We’ll note your observation about a possible retry bug and share it with the team for review.
Appreciate you taking the time to test and follow up!

Seems like it’s the login session or whatever expired. I save my note somewhere else just to be safe, and reload the page then immediately got prompt to login. after login there’s no data lost, but the arrow is still spinning. I randomly type something like the OP said and it immediately went through.

Our team is aware that this behavior isn’t ideal, and we’ve shared these reports internally.
Thanks for taking the time to follow up and add your insight.
