Can’t Access App.SimpleNote.Com from Windows 11 & Chrome

When I go to app.simplenote.com from my computer
I get the message “You must be online to login.”

    • Windows 11 Home
    • Fresh Reinstall (Reset) of Windows
    • Was happening BEFORE the reset as well.
    • I have tried on Microsoft Edge. Same thing.
    • I have tried in incognito mode. Same thing.
    • It *does* work on another Windows 11 PC.
    • Both PCs are connected to the same home Wi-Fi network.
    • All other programs and website work fine, so the internet connection is okay.
    • I **can** access Simplenote.com, just not app.simplenote.com
    • Happens even if I turn off Windows Defender Firewall
    • I do not have any other anti-malware, anti-virus, or firewall software installed.
    • It did **used** to work on this computer
    • It’s a fresh install of Chome, but I have also deleted all cookies & history.

    Thanks.

Hi. You may be unable to reach simperium.com, which is the cloud server for Simplenote. Please see if you can access simperium.com in your browser. (You won’t be able to log in, just see if you can reach the website.)

Is the other Windows 11 computer (that works) connected to the same ISP? Previous problems like this have been related to routing problems for different ISPs.

    Hi. Thanks for answering!

Yes, I can access simperium.com from the affected computer.

Yes, both computers (the one where Simplenote works and the one where it doesn’t) use the same ISP. — They are both in my home, connecting to the same Wi-Fi router, which uses the same (fiber) provider. I’m in a remote area so there are no other Wi-Fi signals they could be accessing and I’ve verified that both are connected to the same network name.

By the way, I don’t know if it’s related but it seems similar:

On the PC where Simplenote works, Reddit also works fine. On the PC where Simplenote gives the “You must be online to login” message, Reddit works, but when I try to LOGIN is gives the message “No internet connection. Please try again.”

I know this is support for Simplenote (not Reddit) but it seems to me that maybe both websites are using some kind of login-service or login-protocol that, for some reason, can’t get out to the internet. Like maybe some PORT or SERVICE is being blocked??

Again, many thanks for your help!

  • @wildjabadoodle It’s not necessarily a similarity between Reddit or Simplenote that’s causing the issue. However, it may point to something in the way the PC where you’re getting an error is set up. Can you please check if it might have a firewall, VPN, or ad-blocker active that could be interrupting its network connection?

You need to accept cookies, and you may need to allow 3rd-party tracking (so cookies from one site can be accessed by another site).

  • Yes, please check @johnswift37’s suggestions. There might be some different setting in your browser. You may compare on both device/PCs and see if you can make them the same and if you still encounter the same problem after that.

Please review your browser settings. They might differ between your two Windows 11 PCs. Try comparing them to see if you can match them. Let us know if you still run into the same issue after making these adjustments.
